10 Years… and Counting!

10 year banner~~~

Can’t believe it’s been ten years since this little blog began as a landing page for Region E of Michigan’s south central chapter of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) when I served as a local president, council president and board member.

A lot has changed.

My children are ADULTS, grown and on their own and I stepped away from PTA.

I got fed up with Facebook drama and transitioned this site to a book blog in support of mainly indie authors.

More than 5,000 posts have found their way to these blog pages and received more than 121,000 views and 4500 comments. Many thanks to followers and supporters who make Nesie’s Place a regular stop during their online time.

I’ve made some amazing contacts, and even better… some amazing friends.

I’ve self-published.

I’ve written and posted close 100 short stories on FeliciaDenise.com.

I learned what a Drabble is.

I won a writing challenge.

And I’ve learned quite a bit about blogging, writing, people… and myself.

I’m looking forward to the future and getting back to writing, though the journey will be bittersweet.

I lost my two biggest cheerleaders this year.

My husband, Dennis, in May

Den

(He was always my biggest supporter, reading everything I wrote… then complaining because there was no teleportation, earth-shattering explosions, epic battles, secret portals, guys named Gus and Deke… or zombies. He knew I hated zombies.)

and my mom last weekend.

It’s not lost on me that during my last conversation with Mom, she commented, “I should let you go. I’ve kept you on this phone for two hours and you probably need to write something or do one of those blog thingys.”

Mom. God bless her.

It’s not going to be easy, but I’d better get busy writing… and doing those blog thingys.

Should I price my pre-release/new release at 99 cents? #authortoolboxhop #writerwednesday #writertips #writerslife

Great post on preorder pricing from an author who’s “been there and done that!”

Deciding how to price an ebook (or book for that matter) is one of the most difficult decisions an author has to make. I won’t get into that today. Instead, I’m going to concentrate on your pre-release/new release price. Specifically, is pricing a pre-release/new release at a bargain price of 99 cents worth it? In my opinion, no. Here’s why.

What to Do After the First Draft

by Katie McCoach

Your fingers hurt. Your eyes burn. You haven’t had anything to drink except coffee for the past few days, weeks, year. You are pretty sure you haven’t slept a full night without dreaming about characters and plot lines.

You are certain you will never type again. Because you finally finished writing the first draft of your novel. Phew!

No matter how many times an author finishes the first draft of a novel, they know this is only the beginning of the writing process. So what do you even do after you write that first draft? What comes next? Where do you even begin the process of revising, rewriting, sharing, and more?

Wacky Wednesday!

Camp NaNoWriMo, AtoZ Challenge, #52weeks52stories, countless WIPs and word prompts all over the place! April is a huge writing month and thousands upon thousands of writers are writing… something! If we’re lucky, we get to type those two wonderful little words, The End. But there’s a whole lot of drama, foolishness and shenanigans before we get there!

To schedule writing time or to wing it? #amwriting

Wonderful post! Write… and remember to live! 😉

Life in the Realm of Fantasy

I think that to be a writer, you must be obsessed with your own art, taking and making time to write. There is no other way to produce a finished book.

But to be a happy writer, you must have a balanced life. What is the point of life if you’re so busy writing about fictional lives that you aren’t present in your own?

That need to be present in my real life is why I schedule my writing time.

Some people manage to fit short bursts of writing into their daily schedule, writing at work while on break or at lunch. Others must schedule a dedicated block of time for writing, by either rising two hours before they must depart for work or by skipping TV in the evening.

I fall into both categories.

When I am gripped with a new idea, I find myself stopping off and on…

Writing: 7 Ways to Cure the Dumbs

Great smack-in-the-face post to chase away the dumbs! 😉👍

J. A. Allen

Recently I’ve been experiencing a pretty extreme case of the dumbs. man-869215_1920People battling the dumbs often have a difficult time performing ordinary tasks: like replying to emails, speaking in full sentences, or remembering that their spouse asked them to pick up that thing at that place for an immediately forgotten but very, very important reason.

Writing has been painful this month. And, when I say painful, I mean that writing has been like pulling teeth. If the teeth were attached to my eyeballs, and my eyeballs were on fire, and I was being dipped slowly into piranha infested lava.

Despite the leaps and bounds made in today’s technological age, the dumbs are hitting people harder than ever. Information is readily available. Forget the name of your hellion’s teacher? Look it up on the school website. Want to learn how to cook the perfect scrambles eggs? Watch a Gordon Ramsey…

Are you a ‘writer in the closet’?

Come out of the closet! LOL! 😉

The Cat's Write

You’re watching your friend closely as surprise flirts across their features, the expression sinking into their eyes and the lines around their mouth.

‘You’re writing a book? Far out, I had no idea you were even a writer!’

You smile tentatively back, feeling naked under their blazing gaze. ‘Well you see… I’ve always been a writer, I’ve just never told anyone before. I mean, some of myvery closefamily know, but even they don’t know how serious I am about it all.’
