Tahl Pendev had been lusting after Reed since Utopia first opened. He could have easily taken Reed to his bed, but Tahl wanted more than a one-night stand. What he wants–no, demands–is forever, or he won’t have Reed at all.

Reed Bowden doesn’t believe in love, marriage, or even commitment. He was happy with one night stands and no strings weighing him down. But when one of his friends gets shot because of Reed, he starts to wonder if his lifestyle is all it was cracked up to be.

Will Tahl find a way to reach Reed, or will they implode before they have a chance?

Warning: High jinx will ensue as the characters from Cedar Falls try to play matchmaker.

STORY EXCERPT

Instantly Reed’s hackles went up, but for an entirely different reason than they had with Alcott. Tahl had a way of pissing Reed off just by existing. “I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Reed lied.

Tahl was the only man Reed had ever met that was better looking than Reed. Midnight black hair that shimmered blue under the right lights accentuated his deep blue eyes perfectly. High cheekbones, strong chin, and firm lips that just begged to be kissed all added to the man’s allure.

But his good looks didn’t stop there. His body was a chiseled masterpiece that spoke of years of dedication and training in the gym. Add to all of that, the man’s cocky attitude of knowing just how fucking gorgeous he was and ability to mesmerize anyone with just a look, and Tahl could have any man he wanted.

Including Reed. Except Tahl hadn’t been interested. The man hadn’t even flirted with Reed. It was as if Reed didn’t exist, well, unless Tahl was giving him a lecture on dating casino staff. There were no smiles from those firm lips, just a disapproving frown that never seemed to waiver.

“Really?” That frown was there, along with one eyebrow raised, telling Reed Tahl not only didn’t believe his lie but was disappointed, as usual, that Reed had bothered to tell it. “Because I believe it is you Alcott came here to see, and since he created a scene that involved Jesse, Ethan, Flynn, and”—Crow hesitated as he glanced over at Kale—“Danton. I would think you would have discouraged him from coming here again.”

Kale’s smile instantly turned icy as he was reminded about the Christmas fiasco that led to all the men mentioned being banned from the New Year’s Eve party. It had been a disaster of epic proportions. One that had nearly gotten Reed fired, the casino closed down, and three innocent bystanders sent to the hospital for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

After Aidan, the property’s manager had banned Alcott for sixty days. Reed had hoped the man would have given up chasing him. Evidently, he was wrong. “It’s not like I invited him here,” he told Tahl belligerently.

“Apparently he didn’t get the memo,” Tahl said dryly. “Have you thought about telling him you don’t want to see him again?”

Reed wanted nothing more than to smash his fist into that smug face. “Look, you pompous jerk, I have told him, over and over again. It’s not my fault if he ignores me.”

A muscle along Tahl’s jaw jumped, but otherwise, he didn’t react to Reed’s insults. His so-called friends, on the other hand, couldn’t get out of there fast enough.

“I think I hear Stone calling me,” Kale said. “I better get moving.”

“Yeah,” Crow followed. “I’m pretty sure he was calling for me, too.”

Reed stared after them, shocked they would just abandon him when they knew he couldn’t stand Tahl. Then again, if the roles were reversed, he was pretty sure he would have gotten out of there as fast as he could, too.

“Looks like your friends are smarter than you, Reed.” There was something in Tahl’s tone that had Reed’s teeth clenching in irritation.

He couldn’t pinpoint it exactly, but the way Tahl talked to him was like a schoolmarm talking to a five-year-old who’d been naughty. He was sick and tired of being treated as if he didn’t know how to behave. No, that wasn’t it. Everyone treated him that way. It was only Tahl he resented doing it.

What he hated was Tahl believing he had the right to tell him what to do. Who the fuck was this guy anyway? “Look, we are not friends, nor do I want to be your friend, so stop thinking you can order me around.”

The moment the words were out, Reed knew them for the mistake they were. Tahl grew still, too still. Those deep blue eyes blazed with fire that trapped Reed in place. Tahl was like a snake about to strike. Just as the thought left Reed’s head, Tahl moved, crowding Reed to the wall not more than ten feet from them.

He had been a Marine for eight fucking years, training with some of the toughest sons-of-bitches he’d ever known, yet Reed had no idea how Tahl had moved that fast or managed to pin him to the wall so he couldn’t move.

He owed Stone an apology for not taking hand-to-hand combat more seriously. Maybe if he’d paid more attention in class, he wouldn’t be in this predicament.

Welcome to Cedar Falls, a small North Carolina town nestled among the Smokey Mountains, where the people are friendly and the men are hot.

Macon Roxley feared his scars would forever mark him as a risk not worth taking. Tyge Drost used to believe he had all the answers, until he lost someone under his care.

Misunderstandings and past wounds have driven this pair apart despite their undeniable attraction. Can either of them find a way to give love a chance, or will they give up on a future of promised happiness to protect their damaged hearts?

Warning: In typical Cedar Falls fashion, the citizens gather together to interfere through means of kidnapping, handcuffing, and general mischief in order to force Macon and Tyge to see what was right in front of them—love. Enjoy, but you have been warned.

STORY EXCERPT

“Are you all deaf?” Macon hated that his voice had risen at least two octaves, but panic had taken him in its icy grip. “I’m not opening a store. I’m not leasing this place. I’m not hiring employees. I’m sure as hell not dealing with customers as they stare at the freak who tried to kill himself.” By the time he was done, Macon was screaming as loud as his voice would carry, completely oblivious to the drop dead gorgeous man who just walked in with Kaden.

As his friends stood there staring at him with their mouths wide open in shock, Macon finally noticed Kaden and the dark haired man next to him. Heat flared within him as his gaze roved over the older man with bulging muscles and slightly crooked smile.

The man had an air of authority that he wore like a second skin. It dominated the room, making it impossible for Macon to breathe.

That this man had seen his hysterics only made things that much worse. For a moment, Macon was sure he was going to pass out and make a bigger fool of himself.

The urge to obey the silent command to get into position that he could see in the older man’s eyes was overwhelming in its intensity. His knees weakened, threatening to give way completely until he was where he belonged, on his knees waiting for this man’s orders.

Piercing eyes seemed to bore right into him, staring deep into Macon’s bleak soul that was as dark as the man’s skin. He was helpless to look away, drowning in the power the man emanated over him. He was everything Macon had dreamed of. Closely cut hair with the barest hint of stubble on the man’s face, eyes that appeared to see everything and a lush mouth with tiny lines around it indicating the man smiled often.
That had been the one thing Macon had hated about Peter. The man never smiled except when beating Macon black and blue.

All the air in the room was suddenly not enough for Macon as he realized what he’d been doing. Just yesterday he’d promised himself to not get involved with another Dom, and this man screamed Dom from the top of his head straight down to his toes.

That this guy was older than Macon, just as Peter had been, only made it worse. Hadn’t he learned his lesson?

Unable to continue to stand there, risking giving into his desire to beg this man to give him what he wanted, Macon raced past him and pushed out the door. If he had to, he’d walk home. No matter how he got there, he was going to barricade himself in the house, ensuring he never met the man with Kaden again.

Rushing down the sidewalk, Macon didn’t pause in his flight to get as far from temptation as possible. The similarities to Peter were too much for Macon to ignore. They were both large older men. Okay, sure, Peter’s size was mostly fat where the stranger was muscle. And maybe, if they stood side by side, Peter would be several inches shorter, but they were both older and a Dom. Or, at least, Peter tried to pretend that was what he was.
Truthfully, Peter had more similarities to a bully than an actual Dom. Then again, for all he knew, so was the man with Kaden. Except…everything about the guy screamed Dom. It was doubtful that man had to pretend when it came to BDSM.

Macon shook the thoughts that were trying to convince him the stranger was nothing like Peter. It didn’t matter. Even if he was willing to take a chance and trust Kaden’s friend, he doubted the man would want him.

Clasping his hands in front of him, Macon hid the scars beneath his fingers. It was time to face facts. No one wanted damaged goods. Not even the stranger who wore a look of hunger in his dark eyes that threatened to devour Macon.

A shiver raced down Macon’s spine at that thought. Disgusted with himself for practically drooling at the man’s feet after nothing more than a look, Macon mentally slapped himself.

He was pathetic. Not for the first time since waking up in the hospital with his wrists wrapped in gauze, Macon wished Vail hadn’t found him so quickly.

About the Author

Shea Balik has always had a vivid imagination with stories running around in her head. Often her stories are taken from observations of other people with her own spin.

Traveling is one of her favorite ways of fulfilling her passion of people watching. She’s still working on traveling to every state within the United States,  and has been to at least half.  Her favorite mode of transportation is the car, because she feels it is the best way to see the country.  Okay, okay.  It may have something to do with her being afraid to fly, no make that terrified.   Shea has always felt if we were meant to fly, we’d have wings. Not that Shea won’t get on a plane, because she will, and does.  After all, how else does one get to Hawaii quickly?

For out of the country traveling, Shea has been to every Caribbean country that cruise ships visit, several times.  Being a Floridian means easy access to ports and cheaper rates.  Although, now that she’s cruised so often, Shea gets discounts for being a frequent cruiser.  In a perfect world, Shea would cruise around the world, but she don’t see that happening anytime soon, unless she wins the lottery.

You never know, one day you may spark her imagination for her next book.

Whether at home or traveling she is usually in front of her computer writing or curled up with a good book.

Synopsis
Welcome to Cedar Falls, a small North Carolina town nestled amongst the Smokey Mountains where the people are friendly and the men are hot.

Danton Pixler has traveled all over the world, refusing to stay in one place for more than a few weeks. When he realizes something is missing in his life, he decides to settle down and move to Cedar Falls.

Kale Driggs has lived in Cedar Falls for nearly a year. He loves the quaint town but fears he will never find the man of his dreams. At a crossroads, Kale must decide if he is going to stay in Cedar Falls or move on.

Fate has a way of arranging a chance meeting for two people who are meant to be together. But will the connection that flares brightly between the two be enough? Or will health problems and family drama keep them from finding their happily ever after?

Shea sits down with Danton Pixler

As someone who always loves a good mani-pedi, I decided go with the theme of this book and Get Nailed. Get your minds out of the gutter. I meant I went to Danton’s nail salon, Get Nailed and got a mani-pedi.

That I was able to return to Cedar Falls was an added bonus, especially if it meant a stop at Sweet Buns for one of their delicious cinnamon rolls. Damn, my mouth is already watering just thinking about getting one of those gooey pastries slathered with creamy frosting.

Excitement at getting to once more see the characters who live in my head filled me when I saw the sign for Cedar Falls. Turning onto Peachtree, I drove to the light and turned left on Main Street. A parking spot just a couple of spots from Sweet Buns was open, welcoming me as if knowing I was coming.

“Shea,” someone squealed before I was even fully out of the car. “You’re here.”

Looking across the street, I watched in amusement as Jesse came running, sort of, across Main street with his arms flung out to welcome me. Those platform boots of his were slowing him down, but eventually Jesse made it and threw himself, or maybe he stumbled and fell into my arms for a bone crushing hug.

“Shea,” another shouted but with Jesse still hugging me, I couldn’t see who it was until they joined the hug.

“Flynn, it’s so good to see you.” And it was. I loved getting to talk to all of the Cedar Falls men. Not that they didn’t talk to me all the time in my head, but sometimes it got really crowded and I would end up with a headache. So seeing them face to face where they can speak out loud was much nicer.

“The others are in the bakery,” Flynn said when he and Jesse pulled back from the hug. “We were excited to hear you were coming.”

Touched that these men appreciated seeing me as much as I did them, I followed Flynn and Jesse into Sweet Buns. Stunned to see, not just several of them, but all of them, even the ones who were still clamoring for their story to be told. “Wow, guys. It’s so good to see you.”
Bram strode forward and pulled me in for a hug. “We hardly get to see you, so when you get the chance to come here, we didn’t want to miss seeing you.”

Tears pricked my eyes as I struggled not to cry. It was hard, as I was so moved by their gesture of love. These men have become my family as much as my own brothers and sister were.

By the time I’d finished my cinnamon roll, which was so good I was tempted to get another, I hadn’t begun to have the chance to talk to each of them, but time didn’t allow for me to linger any longer.

“As much as I’d like to stay all day and catch up, I just can’t.” I hated having to say that when they had gone out of their way to make time for me. Just to prove their generous hearts, none of them complained, they just gave me another hug and went back to their lives as I, with Danton next to me, went across the street to Get Nailed.

“Do you want to start with the manicure or pedicure?” Danton asked as he opened the door.

“Manicure, if you don’t mind.” I’ve found if I get the manicure last, I will ruin my nails by the time I make it to the car. By allowing my nails the time to dry during the pedicure I don’t have that problem.

Danton smiled. “It would be my pleasure.” That was Danton, full of positive attitude.

Getting out the recorder I brought since I knew I wouldn’t be able to write with my nails being done, I pushed record.

SHEA: You are a very positive person, even though your mother tends to quite negative. Where did you get your happy outlook on life?

DANTON: Once he had everything set up to start, Danton sat down and placed one of my hands in the bowl of water while taking the other in his. Honestly, I think it was growing up with all that criticism and negativity that made me realize I could be like my mother, hating everything in life, or I could embrace life and enjoy every minute of it. He looked up from putting oil on my cuticles to give me a million watt smile. Being happy is much more fun, don’t you think?

SHEA: I had to agree with Danton. Life is too short to let yourself be miserable all the time. Recently, you ended up in the hospital. How do you keep the bad things from getting you down?

DANTON: It’s not always easy. I mean, sure life tends to throw a wrench in the plans but I feel we still have a choice of how we react to them. At first, it upset me to have Kale see me like that, but in the end, it brought us even closer together. Danton’s eyes sparkled with happiness. It’s not like we can change what happens to us. But by turning it into a positive, we may end up in the arms of the one we love. What could be a better reason than that to embrace life?

SHEA: So true. Danton’s attitude was infectious. I found that true when writing his story. No matter what happened, he took it in stride and made the best of a bad situation. When he finished painting my nails, we headed over to the pedicure chairs, where I was able to lean back and relax while he went to work. How has living in Cedar Falls compared with the traveling you had done before?

DANTON: It is so much better. Don’t get me wrong, I had loved traveling, seeing new places and experiencing new things. And the people I met along the way, made it all worthwhile. At first, I had worried I wouldn’t be able to stay in one place for more than a few weeks. That I would get bored. He grinned up at me. But that’s the thing with Cedar Falls, it is never boring. My friends here make sure of that. Well, and Kale, who could make living in a cardboard box enjoyable, just by being there.

SHEA: You really love him, don’t you?

DANTON: If I thought his smile was bright before, it was like looking in the sun at the mention of his partner. Kale is like my birthday and Christmas all rolled up in one. I couldn’t have asked to end up with a better man. He’s caring, protective and yet loves to have a good time with me. That he didn’t blink an eye when I had to take in my nephew only shows how special he truly is.

As he finished painting my toes, I regretted that it was time to go. It always made me sad to leave. But life didn’t allow me more time. As Danton would say, I needed to embrace the time I did get. I wish I could spend more time with you, but the next story won’t write itself. I laughed.

Danton hugged me, then waved off my attempt to pay him for the mani-pedi. “Are you kidding? This was on me.” I wasn’t so sure I should accept but then he said, “Consider it thanks for telling my story. The small cost of a mani-pedi can’t begin to compare with my ending up with Kale.”

I still wasn’t sure, but I also didn’t want to offend him by insisting, so I nodded my agreement. One last hug and a teary goodbye and I was heading back to my car.

It was as I was passing the sign thanking me for visiting Cedar Falls that I considered moving to the quirky little town. It would give me more time with my favorite men. Then again, it might make it more challenging when I try to write for the many other series clamoring to be told.

Deciding it would be best to visit as often as I could, I continued driving. At least I wouldn’t have to wait long to return. I do have another book coming soon after all.

Adult Excerpt 18+:

Danton’s eyes got really wide. “No,” he exclaimed. “All types of people like getting mani-pedis, but I guess I just hadn’t realized…” A slight blush worked its way up Danton’s neck and into his face. “I mean…You don’t seem…” That blush grew a bit brighter.

Not wanting to ruin their night, Kale stopped Danton’s stumbling around for the right thing to say. “I happen to love getting mani-pedis.” He took the three steps that brought him flush with Danton. Putting both waters in one hand, he wrapped the other arm around Danton’s waist so their bodies were pressed together. “And I look forward to you massaging my hands and feet.”

His cock throbbed just thinking about it. He’d have to make sure when he went in for his mani-pedi, no one was scheduled after him. Kale was pretty sure having Danton’s hands on him would end up with Kale wanting to bury his dick into the man’s pert ass.

Speaking of which…

Lowering his head, Kale captured Danton’s mouth with his own. Unlike the casino, this time he took his time and savored every moment. The taste of Danton’s berry-flavored lip gloss had Kale lapping at those lush lips. Wanting more of a taste, Kale nipped along Danton’s bottom lip before sucking on the flesh.

Danton gasped, giving Kale the opening he need to thrust inside his wet heat. Their tongues glided together fueling both of their desires for what was to come. The hairs along Kale’s arms stood on end as Danton’s hands slid up to hold onto his shoulders tightly.

Lust slammed into Kale by that simple touch. It was as if Danton was giving himself over to Kale. Taking full advantage, he used his strength to pull Danton up with the arm holding him until he no longer had to bend. It meant Danton’s feet were several inches off the ground, but instead of panicking, Danton just held on, trusting he would keep the man safe.

Kale’s control slipped. No. It didn’t just slip. It shattered. Turning on his heel, he strode into the bedroom with Danton still in his arms.

Slowly, he let Danton slide down his body until he was once more on his feet. “Strip,” he ordered. Kale would have done the job himself, but he was so on edge, he worried he’d only end up ripping Danton’s clothes right off his body. Fun as that would be, it wasn’t very practical.

Blue eyes flashed up at him mischievously as Danton started to do just that. Except, instead of just pulling off his clothes, Danton started to slowly peel the material from his body. The impromptu striptease had Kale clenching his hands to stop himself from just pushing Danton to the bed and fucking him senseless.

His eyes feasted on each inch of skin as it was revealed to him. Drool pooled in his mouth in anticipation of tasting that tantalizing display of flesh. In achingly slow fashion, Danton finally stood before him completely bare.

Mesmerized, Kale’s breathing stalled as he couldn’t believe the beauty before him. Everywhere he looked was perfection. Tattoos along Danton’s collarbone didn’t detract from the creamy skin on display. If anything, it invited Kale in for a taste. Something he couldn’t stop himself from doing even if he’d wanted to.

Bending down, he licked along the tattoo, tracing the lines as they spelled, Live free and fly high. Then he moved on and lapped at the six birds that dotted the area, each a different color to represent the gay flag.

Done with the tattoo, Kale continued licking and kissing up along the corded muscles of Danton’s neck. A sweet moan wrapped around them as Danton tilted his head back to give Kale more room. Kale nipped at the skin as a reward for Danton giving himself so completely.

A groan full of need slipped from Danton when Kale sank his teeth into the fleshy part of his earlobe. Hands were suddenly grasping at Kale’s arms as Danton tried to strain closer. As much as he loved how responsive Danton was, Kale was just too close to coming to not hurry things up.

Lifting Danton up, Kale placed him in the center of his bed. Quick, efficient movements had his own clothes off seconds later. Lifting one of Danton’s hands above his head, Kale reached for the cuff he had attached to the head of the bed.

His gaze met Danton’s. “Are you okay with this?”

Those blue eyes were as wide as saucers, but Danton nodded.

It wasn’t enough. “I need to hear you say this is what you want.” Sane, safe, consensual. It was the mantra Kale lived by. Something he would never forego, no matter how much he wanted to bury himself in Danton’s firm ass.

Excerpt:
“You have got to be fucking kidding me.” Crow said next to Kale.

They were both on the floor of the casino. It was a Saturday night, and the place was packed. Even the slot machines, which pulled in a good crowd normally, were filled with people milling around for one to open up. Whereas the business was good for the casino, it also meant a busy night for the security team.

Every available security officer had been called in. It was only nine, and already they had broken up ten fights, caught four pickpockets, and had to escort eight people from the premises for harassing the dealers. The pit boss, Tahl, was snarling at everyone as his dealers had to take more than the usual amount of crap, and he wasn’t happy about it.

It had been a long night, which was why Kale didn’t like Crow’s tone. It sounded like the man was staring into hell and the devil just showed its teeth. Glancing in the direction his friend was staring, Kale couldn’t help but let out a groan of dismay.

Jesse Grant and his friends were walking through the doors. Worse, their husbands were nowhere in sight. “Fuck,” he swore. Clicking on his mic, he called to Stone. “Are you aware that Griffith just walked in with Jesse and friends in tow?”

There was a moment of silence, probably so Stone could look at the monitors and see for himself. Cursing came through the line that would make a sailor blush. “Keep them in your sight at all times. I’ll start making calls to their husbands.”

Kale and Crow stared at one another in disbelief. “How in the hell does he expect us to do that?” Crow asked. “We don’t have enough staff to watch them.” He gave a snort. “Hell, there aren’t enough people in Cedar Falls to keep an eye on Jesse.”

Kale chuckled. As sad as that was, Crow spoke the truth. Jesse had a way of making things…challenging, even for the strongest willed of them. How Parker, Jesse’s husband, was able to put up with him was anyone’s guess. Not that Jesse wasn’t nice, because he was.

The man would give you the shirt off his back, not that Kale would be caught dead in most of the man’s T-shirts. Like the one he was wearing now said, “Once you put my meat in your mouth you’re going to want to swallow.” Funny, but not something Kale, or most anyone he knew, would wear. Just Jesse.

At the same time, Jesse was nothing but trouble with a capital T. He may not try and find it, but trouble had a way of finding Jesse. Add to that, Jesse didn’t believe in ever backing down, no matter how outnumbered he was, or outmuscled. As admirable a trait as that was, one day it would get the man killed. Jesse was five and a half feet and a buck twenty five soaking wet. He had no chance against most of the men he came up against.

A head bobbing up and down next to Jesse caught Kale’s attention. Mesmerized, Kale stared at the man. Kale didn’t remember meeting the beauty before, and he was pretty sure he wouldn’t have forgotten a face like that.

Even from across the room he could make out the man’s bright-blue eyes filled with laughter. Captivated, his gaze continued on down to take in the earing in the man’s left ear, unshaven face, and lips just shiny enough to beckon Kale for a kiss.

Kale’s tongue darted out to wet his lips as he took in the man’s tattoos along his collarbone and arms. All he could think about was tracing each line with his mouth. No. That wasn’t true. He was also wondering if the sexy man had any more tattoos that he couldn’t see.

“Come on.” Crow slapped Kale on the shoulder. “We better follow Jesse before he gets himself into trouble.”

Seeing the man he couldn’t take his eyes off of was following Jesse to the black jack tables, Kale was more than happy to take on the assignment. Maybe, if he got lucky, he’d get an introduction.

On their way to where Jesse was impatiently waiting for a spot to open up, both Kale and Crow started barking out orders to the rest of their team. For the most part no one bothered Jesse or his friends. Especially at Utopia. The casino had been open long enough to have gotten the reputation of not putting up with bullying.

Yet, that didn’t stop conflicts from happening when they were there. Considering how rowdy things had already been, it didn’t bode well for the rest of the night.

Kale just hoped no one ended up seriously hurt. His eyes went to the sexy man shaking his ass to the music blaring from the speakers. Actually, if he was going to make wishes, it would be to end up with that tight ass in his bed.

Excerpt:

There was nothing that irritated Kaden Daniels more than someone who was late. It was disrespectful and downright rude to keep someone waiting. But, as he was learning, things often ran differently in a small, southern town. Had he known that before moving to Cedar Falls, Kaden might have moved as far north as possible.

Then again, people were late no matter where they lived. It just seemed in the south, they were a lot more laid back about punctuality. Actually, they were more laid back in everything they did. He’d moved to Cedar Falls two months ago, and in that time, he’d found himself doing nothing but waiting.

Waiting for the electrician to fix a faulty light in the garage. Waiting for the cable installer to hook up his cable. Waiting for the lawn company to give him a quote on re-sodding his yard. Waiting for City Hall to sign the permits to start his business.

Thankfully, with a little help from Ryder Monroe, who had been key in convincing Kaden to move to Cedar Falls, everything had gotten done. Although the light in the garage was still flickering, it worked most of the time.

Now, once more he was forced to wait on a man whose mother had made the appointment for him. Why any man would need his mother to do that was beyond Kaden’s comprehension, especially when said man was about to buy an engagement ring. Shouldn’t someone who was going to take the adult step of getting married be man enough to make his own appointments?

The soft tone of the bell rang out as the door to Kaden’s store, The Pearl Necklace, opened. Doing his best to hide the annoyance of being made to wait, Kaden glanced at his watch—twenty minutes late. There was no way he wasn’t going to give this guy a piece of his mind. Kaden looked up from the account books he’d been working on and froze.

It wasn’t often Kaden was left speechless by someone’s beauty. That it happened with only a look, should have been impossible. Kaden was from San Francisco. Everywhere one looked was a drop dead gorgeous gay man. Up until this moment, Kaden believed he was immune to a good-looking man, yet the one before him belied that notion.

The man’s soft, brown eyes, high cheekbones, and firm lips that just begged to be kissed had Kaden taking a step closer. But it was the tightly packed muscle of the man’s body that had Kaden drooling for a taste. He was every one of Kaden’s wet dreams rolled up in one.

Nearly as tall as Kaden, the man before him would be a sight to behold on his knees, waiting with breathless anticipation for Kaden’s commands. The strong jaw and determination in the beauty’s eyes made Kaden’s cock thicken. This man would be a challenge to control, but it would mean so much more when he finally submitted.

For he would submit. The need in the man’s gaze told him that. Excitement thrummed through Kaden’s body at the thought. For the first time since arriving in Cedar Falls, Kaden was glad he’d made the decision to move there.

“Good afternoon,” Kaden said as he walked toward the man who still hovered by the door. “I’m Kaden Daniels, owner of The Pearl Necklace.” He held out his hand, his blood racing at the rough texture of the stranger’s calloused hands.

It was obvious this man was used to hard work, which boded well for what Kaden had planned for him. Kaden wasn’t an easy Dom. In fact, he’d gone through dozens of subs who couldn’t keep up with his demands, in hopes of one day finding the one who could. If things went according to plan, this man would be that one.

“How may I help you?” Kaden let his voice drop an octave as he spoke. He felt the shiver that went through the man as those brown eyes gazed at him with shock, and if Kaden wasn’t wrong, which he wasn’t, a hint of lust.

“Brent Samuels. I believe my mother talked to you on the phone,” the man said.

Just like that, Kaden felt as if a bucket of ice had been dumped over his head. Oh, he was still interested. Kaden would have to be dead not to be, but the man was about to get engaged, which made him off limits.

I felt like I was floating as I once more walked down Main Street to meet with Eddie at Thick and Creamy for our interview. July is my birthday month. Yes, I celebrate the entire month long, and the opportunity to go back to Cedar Falls was the best present I could have ever asked for.

I chuckle as I pass each storefront, loving their names. They were all there, Doggie Style, Kiss of Leather, which just opened, High and Tight, Nice ‘N Rosy, not to mention all the shops across the street.

Finally, I reached Thick and Creamy. Opening the door, I nearly jumped out of my skin when a cry of, “Happy Birthday,” greeted me.

Tears sprang to my eyes as I saw all the characters that have become a part of my life were there with joy shining from their faces. I had to brace myself when Jesse launched himself into my arms for a fierce hug that left me unable to breathe as he wrapped his arms around me.

“Happy birthday, Shea,” Jesse said as he started bouncing just enough to force me to jump with him. “I can’t believe you’re here in time for us to celebrate your birthday.”

I knew Jesse had more enthusiasm than an excitable puppy but I’ve never gotten to see it firsthand. It was…intense and made me want to dance with abandon. I tilted my head back and laughed out loud, not caring what anyone thought of my uncoordinated moves.

But these men were family. They would never leave me to make a fool out of myself alone. The country music that had been playing in the background was turned up and the men joined right in while taking turns to hug me.

By the end of the song, Zane brought out a cake with enough candles to be considered a forest fire. A round of Happy Birthday was sung, with Jesse, Vail and Ethan easily heard above the others as they practically screamed the tune.

“Was it necessary to put all those candles on the cake?” I asked. Eyeing the flames, I knew I was never going to get them all blown out in one breath. There were just too many of them.

Jesse nodded enthusiastically. “Yes it was.” Then he waved a hand toward me as if dismissing my obvious dismay of having to face my age so glaringly. “Age is just a number, sweetie. You’re only as old as you feel.”

“Says the not-even-thirty-year-old,” I mumbled.

“Come on,” Vail said as he took my hand and brought me closer to the cake. “You need to blow these out before the whole place starts on fire,” he joked.

Seeing my glare, Vail stopped laughing, sort of. “Come on, honey. We’ll all help.”

“Don’t forget to make a wish,” Jesse called out. “And make sure it’s a good one, like you are inspired to write a whole other book about Parker and I.”

“Me,” Ryder corrected.

Jesse blinked at Ryder. “What?”

“You should have said Parker and me,” Ryder explained.

Jesse frowned. “Why would I want Shea to write a book about you and Parker?”

“No,” Ryder started to say then shook his head. “Never mind. It doesn’t matter.”

“If it doesn’t matter, why did you bring it up?” Jesse asked.

As the two bickered, all I could see was the wax of the candles dripping on top of the cake as they melted at an alarming rate. “Guys,” I said. “Can we blow out these candles before I have nothing to blow out?”

Just like a puppy, once a new stimulus was added, Jesse forgot all about the argument with Ryder. “Did you decide on a wish?” His eyes were dancing with merriment as he started to bounce. “Do I get another book where Parker and I fuck our brains out?”

There was a lot of laughter and several groans that followed that. But Parker stepped up to Jesse’s back and enfolded his husband in a hug. “Is this her wish or yours, angel?”

Jesse looked over his shoulder at Parker. “Why can’t it be both?”

“Sorry Jesse, but there are too many other characters who haven’t had their stories told, clamoring in my head.” I hated to see Jesse’s smile dim so I added. “But I promise to write you a second story as soon as I have time.” Which, with as many characters as there are chattering in my head, might be years, but Jesse didn’t need to know that.

Closing my eyes, I made my wish.

When I opened them, I counted to three. I, along with men who have shared their lives with me, blew out all of those candles in just one try. “See,” Vail said with a smirk. “I told you, you could do it.” Then he slapped the handle of a knife in my hand. “Now make a wish on the first cut so we can eat.”

I have had many wonderful and amazing birthdays, including my niece being born on my birthday, but never had I been so touched by what these men did for me. Living inside my own head made it more difficult to make friends, so to have these men go out of their way to throw me this party meant a lot.

Eating my cake, chocolate with white buttercream frosting, I made my way over to the man I was there to meet, Eddie. Just off to the side, as if he was still a bit nervous to be a part of the group, Eddie stood with his boyfriend, Axl, by his side feeding Eddie his cake.

The pair was so sweet together, I almost hated to interrupt, but I needed to interview Eddie before it was time for me to go. A glance at my phone to find I only had a few minutes left, spurred me to approach Eddie and Axl.

“Eddie, Axl. It’s good to see the two of you have managed to find a way to get past your hang-ups so you can be together.” I had feared that wouldn’t happen as I had written Kiss of Leather. The two just hadn’t seemed like they’d be able to get out of their own heads long enough to see they were perfect together.

Pink infused Eddie’s cheeks as Axl chuckled and said, “Me too.” He placed a kiss to Eddie’s lips. His gaze heated as he repeated, “Me too.”

“I hate to do this, but I don’t have much time before I need to go and I still need to interview Eddie. Do you mind if I ask a few questions?” I asked.

Eddie straightened, his head bobbing up and down. “Of course. I’m sorry, I completely forgot you have to go soon. Ask away.”

SHEA: When I wrote Will’s story, most of his clumsiness faded away after he met Taden. Has the same thing happened for you?

EDDIE: Blushed furiously and glanced toward the floor as if he didn’t want to answer.

AXL: Eddie is amazing in all he does. If he has a few accidents now and then, it only makes him that much more endearing.

SHEA: I hated that I’d made Eddie so uncomfortable. Had I known he was still having issues, I wouldn’t have asked. Reaching out, I placed my hand on his arm. I’m sorry Eddie. I didn’t mean to bring up a bad subject.

EDDIE: Shrugged. It’s okay. I just wish I wasn’t always dropping things or, you know, tripping over air.

JESSE: Are you kidding? Jesse didn’t have any problem interrupting the interview. This man is up for Cedar Falls Man of the Year for all he’s managed to do to Betty Sue and the Mayor. I even tried to have a parade in his honor but Eddie refused.

EDDIE: Turned such a bright shade of red, I wondered if he would combust.

AXL: Jesse, this is Will’s interview. He agreed to this party for Shea’s sake, but only so long as you gave him privacy for the interview.

JESSE: Scowling. I was just trying to make sure Shea knew how proud we are of Eddie and wouldn’t want him to change anything about himself.

EDDIE: Smiled at Jesse. Thank you, Jesse. The two hugged before Jesse went back over to the party.

SHEA: You were uncomfortable in the beginning hanging out with the other men here. Do you still feel that way?

EDDIE: He smiled brightly. No. Those guys have become my best friends. Especially Will. We hang out all the time.

AXL: A rumble that sounded an awful lot like a growl came from Axl. They also get Eddie into trouble with their antics.

EDDIE: His grin grew bigger. They do at that. But it’s worth every spanking. Eddies eyes widened as he suddenly realized what he’d said in front of me. I mean…

AXL Chuckling. I think Shea understands exactly what you mean, baby.

SHEA: The alarm on my phone went off signaling it was time to wrap this up. Damn, I’m almost out of time. Let me ask one more question. Have you had any contact with your Uncle Ira recently?

JESSE: Laughing hysterically, he came up and threw his arm around my shoulders. Are…you…kidding? Jesse had trouble being understood around the laughter. His uncle came in just two days ago and…

AXL: Jesse. The warning in Axl’s voice would have made the devil pause, but not Jesse.

JESSE: As if Axl hadn’t said a word, Jesse continued. By the time Uncle Ira left he was covered in a mix of hot fudge and whipped cream with a jar of cherries. Jesse’s laughter had him bending over to catch his breath. I was here and saw every bit of it, and still can’t begin to explain how Eddie had managed it. He slapped his thigh. I’m telling you, this guy is going to get voted as Man of the Year.

By then the rest of the group was joining in on the laughter, even Eddie. It was good to see Eddie being able to laugh at his clumsiness without always running away. We all have those moments after all. Learning to laugh at them and move on makes life so much easier.

My second alarm went off.

“Sorry, guys, but I need to go if I’m going to make my flight home.” I hated having to leave. One day I was going to spend the night in Cedar Falls, just so I could spend more time with these men, whom I’ve come to love.

Hugs, waves and tears were all given before I managed to get out of Thick and Creamy and walk to my car. As I drove out of town, I smiled at the voices in my head, all begging for their stories to be told. I may not be able to stay in Cedar Falls for long, but I would be back. The characters demanded it.
