“Dat boy, Frankie’s son. I told him, man. Laid it all out. Dere was a … a secret.” Gordo put his fingers to his lips theatrically. “Never done tol’ nobody. Was savin’ it, me. ’Cause he’s Frankie’s boy, and me an’ Frankie were tight. I’d of done anything fo’ him. An’ I did.” Gordo nodded emphatically.
Joe Don walked over to two eighteen-wheelers on the other side of the lot and knocked on one and then the other’s door. Mack couldn’t hear what Joe Don said to the sleepy-eyed truckers, but both trucks were fired up and gone in less than five minutes.
