This is a story of a young girl who learns self-worth by embracing the very “flaws” that make her beautiful. Strawella Berry is a spunky fairy that enters a singing competition only to realize winning doesn’t feel so good when one has to pretend to be someone they are not.

Alejandria Kate wrote How the Strawberry Got Its Seeds with the hope that Strawella’s story inspires children to celebrate being different as well as imparts courage and confidence to any child who has suffered self-esteem issues.

#BookReview “Once Upon A Princess: Land of Dreams (A Paranormal Fairy Tale)” by Deborah A. Bailey

cover

~~~
When we last saw Willem, the (pervy) gargoyle in Heart of Stone,  he died.
Okay, kinda, sorta. But I won’t go into detail—you must read that story for yourself!
Willem awakens on a muddy riverbank with no memory of past or present. He’s greeted by a water goddess, Lady Maris, who tells him because of his sacrifice to free her son, Eduardo, he has been granted a chance at a life and love of his own… after he fulfills his destiny. Think Pinocchio “You’re a real boy!” Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Lady Agnes appears again. In Beauty and the Faun, she was Kayla’s godmother. Turns out, she’s a real fairy godmother and it’s her job to train Willem in the ways of magic and spells. He goes along with the plan, though he’s still confused and convinced he’s not being told all the facts.
Though he appears as a human now, Lady Agnes gifts him with a pendant that makes him a gargoyle shifter with the ability to transform at will.
And he does. To clear his head and jog his memory, Willem spreads his massive wings, takes flight, and visits the other side of the world. And he’s devastated as his memories return. All the treachery and betrayal; pain and loss, and knowledge of what he can never have.
My heart broke for poor Willem! He did the right thing for the right reason and paid a steep price. Now all he wants to do is run away and forget, but Ladies Agnes and Maris insist he is the only one who can fight the coming evil. Lord Montrose implores him to save his daughter’s life.
This quick, feel-good read made me smile because even with all the swords and sorcery, and magic and spells, Willem will learn to defeat the evil of dark magic and gain his own identity, the source of his greatest power will be love.
How cool is that?
Was good to see and hear mention of characters from the Once Upon a Princess Duet, and to see everyone so happy.
This is such a different ending from what I imagined for Willem in Heart of Stone. It’s better because he’s alive and in love. And yeah, he’s still a little pervy, but gotta love him, right?
Enjoy!
Formula for Fairy Tale Love: 1 adventurous Heroine + 1 tortured-but-noble Hero = Happily-Ever-After.
In the rich and fertile land called Montrose, humans and creatures of magic exist together in a complex web of harmony…and deceit.cover
A Sequel to Once Upon A Princess: Heart of Stone
Willem was created of magic and trapped in the Land of Dreams by a curse in which he shared his gargoyle form with Eduardo. When Eduardo freed himself from the evil spell his jealous half-brother Erokan cast on him, Willem survived and was given a new life by the faeries. Haunted by the duality of his previous existence as well as the woman he and Eduardo both fell in love with while hexed, Willem, now a gargoyle shifter, meets the daughter of Lord Montrose. Compassionate, graceful and adamant about marrying for love and not riches, Cicely is far more wondrous than her outside beauty suggests. Suddenly, everything he’s ever wanted is within his grasp. But he isn’t the only man who longs to capture her.
Aware that Cicely descends from the royal line and was hidden away as a child to keep her magical ability a secret, a mysterious stranger intends to bend the powerful fire elemental to his will. To succeed, he has only to dominate Willem, still anguished by the curse that trapped him…and easily beguiled by a fair princess.
Cicely knows she possesses magical ability, but her origins are a mystery even to her. She loves her family and her land. Falling in love with the courageous, self-sacrificing Willem may be the key to awakening…or unleashing…something formidable buried deep inside her.
#99c “The Naughty List” by L.A. Kelley
cover
~~~

This is not a typical Yuletide tale.

Murder, mystical artifacts, an invisible demon with anger management issues, and an overbearing cupid—not what Rosalie Thatcher wished for on her Christmas list.

The holidays had always been a magical time for Rosalie, but not this year. Her new manager at Penrose’s Department Store is determined to make this season the most profitable in the store’s history, even if it sucks the life out of every employee. Introducing arbitrary rules and stealing the affections of the cute temp Santa were bad enough, but forcing Rosalie into the stupid elf hat was the worst. The worst, that is, until she meets a real E.L.F. (Elemental Life Form) named David and gets lassoed into a desperate hunt for the stolen Naughty and Nice List. Now all Rosalie and David must do is dodge a murderous invisible demon and recover the missing artifact before hellhounds track them down. The couple race against time for without the magical guidance of the Naughty and Nice List, the world will tumble toward eternal chaos.

The Naughty List is an updated version of the Santa legend. Spiked with humor, action, and romance, the story will banish the bah humbug from anyone’s holiday spirit.

A bargain worthy of the gods of old…

Persephone and Hades fell in love, eloped, but their happily-ever-after was put on hold when Prometheus invaded the Underworld to steal fire magic and make the queen of the after-life his bride. Although the trickster god’s plan was ultimately thwarted, Hades was wounded and forced to stay in the realm where his powers are greatest in order to heal. As punishment, Zeus agreed to confine Prometheus on Mt. Olympus as long as Persephone lived on Earth in modern times six months out of the year. If she failed to return at the summer solstice each year, Prometheus would be released…and the Titans set free from their exile.

When gods demand worship, worlds will either fall to their knees…or to their destruction.

Under a curse inflicted on her by Prometheus’ partner in crime, Nemesis, Persephone lost her memories of being a goddess. She lives in New York City as Sephanie “Seph” James, a blogger and graphic designer. When Seph fails to contact Hades with the time of her return to Mt. Olympus via the Underworld gate, he reaches out to the other gods living on Earth. Felicia’s Review

 ~~~
 Land of Dreams excerpt
 Elemental magic had created his life and destroyed it. And yet, Maris wanted him to help Cicely to awaken her magic. To make it stronger.
 “Willem? Are you all right?” Cicely was starting at him, her expression quizzical. “You look funny.”
 Willem sighed and wiped the crumbs from his fingers. “It’s getting late.”
“You want me to leave?” she asked.
 “No…I…you…” Words failed him. “You don’t have to spend the entire day with me. Isn’t Trevor waiting? Or maybe another young man?”
 “Trevor is out hunting with my father and some others. He’s trying to win Father over, but it won’t work. Father knows I have no interest in him.”
 “Then why bother to entertain him?”
“Protocol, diplomacy…ridiculous things like that. Things that don’t matter,” she said.
Willem rose and went over to join her. “But you are heir to Montrose. It matters. Surely you want a prince or king by your side.”
She laughed. “No, I don’t care about that. You’ve been in love, Willem. Surely you understand that titles aren’t important. I want to be happy, and I want love.”
Love. He’d spent a few years longing for his love. Then after a short while, it was over. No, that was Eduardo. Not him. Not him. “Love is not to be counted on.”
 Cicely reached out to him. “How do you know that for sure? Maybe you counted on the wrong person.”
 Grasping her hand, he kneeled down next to her. “How do I find the right one?” he asked.
“Your heart will tell you.”
 Willem gritted his teeth to keep from shuddering, but it didn’t work. She was so close to him, and he wasn’t sure whether it was the heat from the fire or her proximity that warmed him.
His desire for her was even stronger than his distaste for magic.
Fairyland is in chaos. It is nearly time for the Grand Royal Annual Ball and Cinderella, has had enough of Prince Charming and desperate to get a divorce – as long as she can continue to enjoy her current standard of living. Harold and Snow White quarrel over his philandering and her refusal to go where every woman has gone before. Augustus also has a problem, his wife Sleeping Beauty is making up for lost time, producing 28 children, and he can’t meet the household bills. There is a dearth of suitable princes for the available spinster princesses and the annual festivities are held for that very reason. There is friction between Ermintrude the Fairy godmother by Royal Appointment and Featherduster who favours the proletariat. Into all this turmoil, the Green Giant arrives, sent by the ‘Party’ to ferment an uprising among the downtrodden peasants who appear quite happy as they are and not interested in anything he has to say – unless he can provide them with TV sets. A non-politically correct tale much closer to the truth than anything you have ever seen on the movies.
