The clouds above were dark and ominous. Moctezuma lay there bleeding, tears rolling down his swollen, bloodstained face. He thought of his firstborn, Isabella, at the mercy of the murderer of his people, Hernán Cortés, and it made him tremble with anger and loss. In a last act of defiance, Moctezuma murmured his revenge:
”Oh powerful god, I ask you to avenge my people. I ask that the next daughter of Hernán Cortés and her seed be cursed.”
With that he closed his eyes and destiny was set in the stars above him.

Daughter of the Boricua continues the saga of the award winning book, Song of the Boricua, and follows the story of Puerto Rico, told through the lives of three generations of women.
Liani; a Taino torn between her loyalty to her people, and her love for a Spanish officer.
Isabella; direct descendant of Aztec princess Isabella Moctezuma, cursed as her grandmother was.
Josephine; daughter of Isabella, afraid to love, but finding herself caught between love or career.
Are they cursed? Will they succeed or will their lives converge and end with the storm of the century?

Cristobal

Vega Alta, Puerto Rico

April 2015

The past is only a shadow emerging from nowhere. (Julia de Burgos, Farewell from Welfare Island)

Cristobal felt the darkness growing within him. He didn’t know what was happening to him, but as the months went by, he felt the dark cloud grow over him and over his marriage.

He would catch Isabella staring at him when she thought he wasn’t looking. He felt terrible, sad, and melancholy, but he couldn’t stop the growing feeling of impending doom.

He worked on his import-export business from the home office. His window overlooked the beautiful sea and the lush avocado trees they were growing.

Even with the paradise before him, he could not shake the feeling that something was going to happen.

#BookTour “Lost Coast Literary” by Ellie Alexander

Lost Coast Literary cover

~~~
Book editor Emily Bryant finds herself unexpectedly in the charming town of Cascata on California’s Lost Coast, holding the keys to her grandmother’s rambling Victorian mansion. While sorting through her grandmother’s things, Emily learns that she must edit old manuscripts to inherit the estate. It’s a strange request from a family member who was basically a stranger.
Emily quickly realizes that there’s something different about these manuscripts. Any changes she makes come true. At first, she embraces the gift. She has a chance to help characters find true love or chart a new course for their future. But then things go terribly wrong. Her edits have the opposite effect. The sweet and funky seaside community of Cascata is reeling from the chaos Emily has created. Everything she thought she believed about her family and her past is in jeopardy, and no amount of editing can fix the damage she’s done.
Then she finds one last manuscript. If Emily can get this edit right, maybe she’ll have a chance to create a new narrative for herself and everyone around her.
EXCERPT
I unlocked The Ballad’s front door and took a slow, steady breath before stepping inside. The foyer was dark. I fumbled around for a light switch. When my hand finally connected with the switch light flooded into the room revealing exquisitely restored walnut hardwood floors. Stained glass windows in the curved entryway reflected twinkling butterscotch, plum, and sapphire beams onto the far wall. Two rooms adjoined the entrance hall. To my left was a parlor painted in muted beach tones with a built-in fireplace and bookcases filled with spines arranged by height and held together with chunky driftwood bookends.
Books. Oh my God, so many books. I let out an audible gasp, unable to tear my gaze from the parlor where an abundance of titles that rivaled that of any small library called to me. I could spend an entire day admiring Grandma Gertrude’s enchanting collection of books. Books are my addictive craze. Forget about ice cream, chocolate, pot, your drug of preference. Give me a stack of books anyway.
I felt like an over-enthusiastic puppy let outside for the first time.
Bone.
Squirrel.
Fire hydrant.
Books. Books. Books.
They aren’t going anywhere Emily, and you have a five-thousand square foot mansion to explore. I tugged my attention away from the captivating shelves for the moment.
An intricately carved circular staircase sat in front of me. The ceiling stretched at least twelve feet above me. Period details were evident in the weighty carved moldings and brass hardware. A sign hanging from the newel post at the base of the steps read: PRIVATE.
Odd. The upstairs was private?
A cream-colored hallway lined with framed watercolor paintings and floral geometric handwoven area rugs led to the back of the mansion. The entire house had a cohesive natural ocean color palette in milky greens, harbor blues, and soft grays and creams.
But it was the room to my right that caught my eye. The hand-carved door was shut. Another sign hung from it: LOST COAST LITERARY.
Lost Coast Literary, I repeated out loud. There was something oddly familiar about the name. Was it a memory? Something else?
I turned the handle, but the door was locked. Maybe one of the keys would open it. I tried the basic house key first with no success. The antique key didn’t work either.
There must be a key somewhere else, I thought as I ventured upstairs. The serene, soft lighting and gleaming redwood accents continued on the second floor. Ornate millwork, jeweled windows, and knotted spindles gave the space a spellbinding aura. I was completely caught up in its trance.
The house creaked and sighed as if readying itself for sleep as I wandered into a study with yet another fireplace and a bathroom with patterned tile floors and an attached sitting room. Farther down the hall there were five spacious bedrooms with carved oak fireplaces and three more bathrooms.
I fought back cloudy memories of running through the long hallway and pretending to put on lipstick in front of the antique mirror. Were they real or was I grasping?
BLURB:
USA Today and International bestselling author Emmanuelle Snow brings a love story that will tug your heartstrings and keep you on the edge of your seat.
In my world, darkness has a name.
I’ve seen darkness. And looked straight into his eyes.
I’ve lived through darkness. Since I was a little girl.
Violence is my reality. My normal.
His father hit him. Now he hits me. For no reason other than a way to cope with stress. At least that’s the excuse he uses after he teaches me one of his, what he calls it, life lessons.
Now that he has left me for dead, I need to run away. To put as much distance between us as possible. Because this time, even with his powerful connections, he won’t find me. I’ll make sure of it.
My safe haven has a face. And even a name. But he has no idea I’m coming. That I need his help. And the safety he can provide for me. We met before. Once. Then I vanished into the night without saying goodbye.
A year has gone by since. Will he remember me? Will be a safe place to heal my wounds? Or did I dream the connection we shared that one night on the rooftop bar amongst his wealthy friends?
I’ll wait for him. Because I have nowhere else to go, alone, afraid, and scarred, praying this time, darkness won’t have a foothold on me.
Can I finally let the seeds of hope he planted into my heart that night grow, or should I keep running for my life?
EXCERPT
I faltered out of the cab toward the front porch but dropped my keys before climbing the three steps. In the dark night, my navy-blue craftsman house with stoned columns and white trims looked almost haunted. I scratched the side of my head. Why were the lights out? I had a timer installed when I moved in six years ago. The lights on the front porch turned on at sunset and turned off in the morning. Every single day. No exception.
Not tonight, though.
Was there a blackout?
I spun on my heels and scanned the street. Every other house had lights on.
I scratched the side of my head once more.
This was a mystery I’d solve another day. Now all I craved was a hot shower and a comfy bed to forget my week.
I blinked, but my eyes refused to adjust to the darkness. Damn it. I bent down to scramble for my keys. With my hand clamping the banister in a death grip, I barely made it up the stairs and promptly tripped over something, falling to my knees.
“Fucking great.”
Had I received a package and they’d just set it down right in the middle of my way?
In the dark, I saw nothing.
Damn these lights.
It took my brain a long minute to process the scene and remember the phone in my jacket. With heavy fingers, I turned the flashlight mode on.
My breath caught in my lungs. My heart jackhammered in my chest. I didn’t scream because no sound came out of my paralyzed vocal cords. What the—? Was it a—?
A body.
It was a fucking body.
I brought the light beam closer to what looked like a corpse. Was this person dead? My stomach leaped in my throat. Acid filled my mouth. Don’t throw up, man. Think. Inhale. Exhale. Why would there be a dead body on my front porch? This made no sense. I held my breath, scared the scent of death would penetrate my nose and haunt me forever. I hovered the light over the still body. By the width of the hips and the slim legs, it was either a tall child or a woman.
Frozen, on all fours, I pondered my options.
As my fingers hit the nine, the one, and the one a second time, a voice, soft and low, broke the silence. I startled and fell back on my ass.
“Riley— Are you Riley?” A woman. The voice belonged to a woman. My shoulders slouched forward. Okay, no dead person on my conscience.
I delved into my memories. I knew the voice. I had heard it before. But where? In my state of drunkenness, with alcohol drowning my brain cells, I had a hard time putting a face to the familiar voice.
I cleared my throat. “That’s me. Do we know each other? Should I call the police? Are you hurt? Do you need help?”
The woman moved to the side and pushed herself up to sit beside me. A growl of pain escaped her mouth as she wrapped her shaky arms around herself.
Thousands of questions popped into my head.
I moved closer to catch a sight of her face, trying to avoid blinding her with the light beam.
Gray-blue eyes met mine.
My heart died a thousand death in my chest before jolting back to life and beating in a frenzied rhythm.
EXCERPT
My boyfriend turned to face me, and I hurried into his arms. “Princess, you’ll be amazing up there. Look at me.” I tilted my head back. “I’m so proud of you.” He tucked a strand of hair behind my ears.
      I rose to my tiptoes. “I love you.”
      With the pads of his fingers, he wiped the tears pooling in the corners of my eyes.
      “I love you too.”
      I looked around. “It’s kinda scary. All those people. The stage, the crowd—”
      “Carter will be up there with you. You have nothing to worry about.”
      Riley stepped next to us. “Okay, Dahlia, time to go. Ready?”
       “I guess.”
      Would my voice be shaky like this on stage?
      Butterflies took flight in my stomach. The not-so-fun kind.
      I walked away, my hand locked in Jeff’s, touching until our fingers broke apart.
      Carter neared me and snaked his arm through mine. “It’s okay, Dah. I’m here. We can do this. Just follow my lead, I’ll take care of everything.”
      Those words.
      My pulse evened.
      We exchanged a smile as Stud padded in our direction and put his arms around us.
      “Let’s show them what we’ve got.” He stopped and pulled us into his embrace. “We’re kicking off our first world tour. How awesome is that? Let’s do this, motherfuckers.”
      Stud’s longish stubble rapped my cheek.
      “Oh yes,” Carter said as I replied, “Let’s make history.”
      The lights of the stage blinded me. My heart sank down to my toes. “Seventy thousand people,” I said, mostly to myself. “Seventy thousand.”
      My insides tightened. Carter said a few words to the crowd, but I registered none. My eyes drifted to the right side where Jeff stood. Did I look like a deer caught in headlights? My fingers shook. My head turned. My legs wobbled. I tried to breathe, but my lungs were closed for business.
      “You can do this,” Jeff mouthed.
      I swallowed the lump choking me.
      Carter strummed the first chords of “Heart for Rent.” My heart leaped in my throat. Why did I agree to this? I loved our simple garage band. This, right here, was way too big for a White Crest girl like me. I shut my eyes, silencing my thundering heart. I could do this. I breathed out. My fingers played on their own. I locked my eyes on my best friend. He winked. No one was here except the two of us—and Stud. We were back in Carter’s garage, dreaming about getting fifty people to come see us play.
      This—right here—was our dream.
      I rolled my shoulders—chasing the tension away—rotated my neck and found my voice.
Three men. Three stories.
A country music superstar. His manager. And the guy who doesn’t believe in love.
Reed Knight doesn’t believe in love. Thanks to his parents who sent him back and forth between Canada and the US growing up, he has put walls around his heart. Thick walls that no woman has ever broken through.
Career-driven, Reed has everything he needs in life: friends, a successful business, and pleasure on the side.
Yes, his life is complete. According to his own standards, at least.
But when she walks into his life, tornado-style, it disrupts everything he ever thought he knew.
Nothing matters anymore. Not the lock around his heart. Or his stupid decade-old rules.
Can Reed find it in him to love someone else, or will his icy heart stand in the way?
Excerpt
Gilbert raised his hands in surrender and slouched into one of the two white leather chairs facing my desk. “You really think what you two have is purely sex?”
      “I know it is.”
      “That easy, huh?”
      “Yep. You won’t see me propose or walk down the aisle anytime in the next century, so there’s nothing wrong with having a little fun on the side.”
      “And what if Gabrielle develops feeling for ya? What if she falls in love with you? You know it’s a possibility, right? You look dapper. Women are shitty friends with benefits. They’re lovers. All of them. Sooner or later, Gabrielle is gonna expect some sort of commitment from you. Just wait and watch.”
      Gilbert shrugged, smirking.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Smart, Sexy, and Sassy Love Stories
Emmanuelle Snow is a contemporary author of mature YA and New Adult love stories, who likes to give life to strong characters who’ll fight with all they have to reach their life goals and find their own happiness.
Emmanuelle is in love with love. Especially those complicated, deep, and passionate feelings that make a relationship extraordinary and complex, all at the same time.
In her spare time, when she’s not writing or reading, Emmanuelle likes to go on road trips—with her four kids and her own soulmate—watch movies, paint, or do some DIY, always with a cup of green tea in her hand and listening to country music.
