4/5 Stars!

While not a happy story or easy read, Isolation Junction is a no-holds-barred look at one woman’s struggle to free herself (and her children) from an abusive relationship and reclaim her life.

Rose speaks well of Darren in the beginning but the relationship descends into a marriage of control and abuse.

It’s always easy to stand outside and judge, even in fiction, but I was gobsmacked when she married him and wondered how bad it would get.

Pretty bad.

Darren isolated Rose away from family and friends, harassed her to quit her job and played the victim, all while with an eerie and evil passive/aggressiveness that Rose fell for. Actually, that’s not true. While there were some frightening moments, Rose allowed and tolerated much of Darren’s abusive behavior, believing (wrongly) it was easier.

She thought if she gave him his way, he’d be happy with her; if she were better, he’d be better; if she erased herself and made him the focus, they would have a happy home.

But that’s not how it works. Abusers are only happy… when they’re abusing—mentally, emotionally or physically, and Rose found this out the hard way. The lengths Darren goes to control and humiliate Rose simply because he can are nauseating. Every time I turned a page, I was hoping she’d pick up a brick and clean his clock.

An intriguing read that will have you pulling at your hair in frustration, but Tim, his family, and Rose’s family are major bright spots in heartwarming scenes.

Darren and his family? I have no words. When they were at the house… Rose got in the car… Tim pulled away… and the brother… OMG! I wish Tim had been driving a tank. And those sisters? Disgusting!

Readers of literary fiction, psychological thrillers, and women’s fiction will dive right into Rose’s story… just keep an eye on your blood pressure!

Enjoy!

Born in the North East, I am a young, married mum with three children. I assist in running a family business from my home-base and I have a large readership of other young mums in business for my blog posts.

From an early age I have had a passion for writing and have been gathering ideas and plot lines from my teenage years. A passionate advocate for women in abusive relationships, I have amalgamated and fictionalized other survivors experiences alongside my own to write my first novel detailing the journey of a young woman from the despair of an emotionally abusive and unhappy marriage to develop the confidence to challenge and change her life and to love again. I hope that in reading my debut novel, I will raise awareness of this often hidden and unseen behavior and empower women in abusive relationships to seek help for themselves and find the confidence to change their lives.

“They Said That I Wouldn’t Make It: But Here I Am” by Wanda Howard

They I Wouldn't Make It cover

“They Said That I Wouldn’t Make It: But Here I am

Genre: Personal Growth/Self-Help

Release Date: August 31, 2017

This story is about survival & forgiveness. My mother gave birth to me at the age of 26 and was not too sure if she could take care of me. Physically or emotionally. At this time she was already struggling to take care of two kids that were 6 and 7 years old and adding another child to her equation, just did not bring her any comfort.

I was told by my grandmother that she talked my mother into keeping me and she had hoped that me coming into this world would slow her down or stop my mother from snorting cocaine and smoking weed. My grandmother was wrong. The drug and alcohol use continued and increased. When I was 10 my mother invited a couple of friends over to play cards and socialize. I can tell you right now neither of the two happened. The glass table in the living room was filled with cocaine powder and razors. Most of my childhood and early adult life was spent looking and trying to fulfill an empty space that I felt. I made a lot of mistakes with money and relationships because of this feeling. I almost lost my daughter because of it. One day I woke up after a night of excessive drinking and crashing my Honda Civic into a wall. I had to make a decision. Did I want to live or die? I chose to live.

Biography

Life Coach, Writer, & Silence Breaker

I encourage, I Inspire young women to change the direction of their path for the sake of their future. I believe that you can make it after the pain. I am the ear & the support system for women who struggle with forgiving and moving forward from their past.

Three years of psychology & my personal life experience has allowed me to gain the knowledge needed to help others heal, forgive, and move forward.

The Purpose

Silence is not the answer to breaking the vicious cycle of pedophilia, harassment, rape, abuse, or risky behavior. I’m breaking the silence & telling my stories to motivate young women to forgive & move forward from their past. There’s a code of silence that has broken the strength & courage of young women who were just trying to live and be free. Over 60% of women are exposed to sexual abuse and physical violence before the age of 16. Most of them are sworn to secrecy and threatened by their abuser to shut them up. Others are persuaded by family members that by reporting the act of rape and or physical violence that it will destroy their family. If you put 10 women inside of one room, it is more than likely that at least nine have been victims of pedophilia, harassment, and/or sexual assault; or they have a friend, cousin, sister, aunt, mother, or grandmother who has been victimized.
