#CoverReveal “HOOPLA (Detroit Sports Network, #3)” by Liz Crowe

Title: HOOPLA, Detroit Sports Network Book 3
Author: Liz Crowe
Genre: Contemporary Sports Romance
Release Date: January 13, 2021
Cover Designer: Jay Aheer, Evernight Publishing

The last thing LeeAnn Thompson wanted to do was interview Detroit’s hot new basketball phenom. She didn’t like wasting time on cocky, flirty, annoying athletes and this one promised to be more of the same. But when she has to cover for one of her employees at DSN, she meets him, and falls hard, although she knows better than to take her sudden obsession with Jax Hoople seriously. He’s too young for her, for starters. And she has her own goals, none of which include a relationship–although getting laid might be nice.

Jax is a Michigan boy through and through. When he demands that his agent get him a spot on the flailing Detroit pro basketball team so he doesn’t have to leave the grandparents who raised him behind, the sports world is shocked. His intro to the team is tough, and he’s not settling in well when a lovely, red-headed goddess walks into his life via a “quick interview” after team practice.

He’s determined to push past her emotional barriers and be more than a boy toy. She’s determined to hook up, then toss him aside. What ultimately happens surprises them both.

#BookReview “Surviving Faithful” by Anna Bishop Barker

Title: Surviving Faithful

Author: Anna Bishop Barker

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Release Date: December 10, 2020

Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

5/5 Stars!

Kudos to the author for a gritty, relatable read on second chances and new beginnings.

Though they both grew up in Faithful, Tennessee, Olivia Hudson and Kyle Valentine actually meet for the first time in their thirties at the cookout of mutual friends. She’s not counting the first time when he brushed her off in high school for being a kid, and he doesn’t remember it.

While their chemistry is off the charts, Kyle and Olivia are cautious. He’s just back from a three-year pity party after the murder of his pregnant wife, and she’s consumed with grief and guilt after losing her mother in childhood and for the way she treated her father until the day he died.

Yup! Tons of emotional baggage!

But Surviving Faithful is not an exercise in avoidance. The couple lay their vulnerabilities out on display to each other and discuss the hard parts… fears, anxieties, and regrets, like adults. How refreshing! And their wit and snarky banter really sealed the deal for me!

Kyle can be all grumpy alpha-male with the mouth of a sailor on shore leave, and Olivia can sit in her head too much, but it’s who they are, not defense or control mechanisms.

Of course, all can’t be perfect in Faithful. Someone is taunting veterinarian Olivia with dead animals, and Kyle has a father-in-law bent on causing trouble.

But who said love was easy?

My first book by Anna Bishop Barker, but definitely not my last!

Enjoy!

Can a broken former bad boy and a lonely small-town vet really work? Kyle Valentine left Faithful, Tennessee because there was nothing for him there. In one nightmarish moment all he had was taken. But Faithful never left him. It was as much a part of him as the marrow in his bones. He spent three years on the water and on the run from his grief. Then this dead wife told him to go home.

~~~~
Veterinarian Olivia Hudson was just a small-town girl with simple needs. She had the prerequisite three wishes. She wanted a makeup that covered her freckles. She needed people to stop feeding their dogs chicken bones. She craved a decent man who would love her, only her, beyond all reason and rational thought. None of those wishes was coming true. Until a mountain of a man with tattoos and a deliciously dirty mouth landed at her front door, and things started looking up.
~~~~

But who was leaving the dead cats on her lawn?

Row Seventeen, Plot Forty-Two, Under The Big Oak Tree He sat with his back propped up against the headstone. The sod under him was freshly laid and felt lumpy and hard under his ass. It was quiet, especially this early in the morning when the sun was barely a promise on the horizon. It had been pitch dark with no moon when he got there, and he had to use his big industrial flashlight to find his way. He had been there every night for the last two weeks, so he was vaguely surprised that he still needed any light to find them. Eighteen days. They had been gone for eighteen days. She had been gone for eighteen days. The baby had been little more than a promise that had been broken. A girl, they had told him. The ultrasound that would have given them that news had been scheduled for tomorrow morning. No need for it now, of course. Now Aponi and their baby girl lay six feet and a few inches of frozen ground away from him. He rested his head back against the cold, hard marble and closed his eyes. Did it make him a coward that he wanted to die too, but didn’t have the guts to make it so? Survival was a concept that he was intimately familiar with. Grief was not, and his mind was exhausted trying to reconcile the two. What had the preacher said? “Someday you will understand God’s plan, Kyle.” Why did they say shit like that? Because that is what it was – utter fucking, dog pile bullshit. They all meant well. Were his heart still alive, he would have loved them for it. But the more his family and friends tried to do something, anything to help him, the less he felt capable of living. He wanted to lie down here, pull up the dirt over him, and sleep with them forever. He wanted it, but he didn’t do it, and with every day that passed he wondered why not. As Kyle Valentine sat on the cold dirt that covered the fresh grave of his wife and unborn daughter, he didn’t see her sitting on the ground just outside the iron fencing. He wouldn’t have recognized her if he had seen her. Olivia couldn’t say exactly why she had followed him. She had heard the Harley pass her house every night for the past two weeks. It was hard to miss. There weren’t many Harleys in Faithful. She knew it was Kyle, and she knew where he was going. Everyone in town knew where Kyle Valentine was spending his nights. Something had made her walk to the cemetery tonight, and she hadn’t brought Snape. The same force had her follow the man, made her sit down to watch him. She knew she was invading a scene she should not be witnessing. But something kept her there. So she sat on the concrete, shivering occasionally, until the big man finally got to his feet and walked the opposite way to where his motorcycle was parked. And somewhere is the cosmos, something stirred in the stars. Nineteen Rows Back and Fifty Feet to the East, Row Thirty-Six, Plot Two Dr. Wilbur Hudson was buried next to his wife, Marlene. Olivia hadn’t been there since she buried her father seven months earlier. But since she had been at the cemetery, it seemed wrong not to go visit. Now she stood in the cold January air, gloved hands shoved into the deep, sheepskin-lined pockets of her coat. Her breath released in frosty puffs that drifted around her face. She hadn’t visited her mother’s grave on any regular basis since she left for college, but there had been a time when she had ridden her bike there nearly every day. Marlene Hudson had passed away from the cancer in her breast on a lovely spring day when Olivia was twelve years old. Eight months later Olivia got her period. She had ridden to this very spot and stood on the grass that covered her mother’s remains. She had screamed out her anger that Marlene Hudson had not been there to tell her what to do, what she needed. She had stood on this very spot and told her mother about the crush she had on Kyle Valentine in eighth grade. Sobs had rocked her teenage body when she asked her mother why Kyle didn’t like her back. There had never been any answers. No words of wisdom, love, encouragement, or understanding. Olivia had stood beside Marlene Hudson’s tombstone the day she was awarded the scholarship to UT. The silence was deafening. It always was. There were no words of pride, no doting smiles, no adoring arms. After that, she rarely visited. She thought about visiting, planned to visit. Something always came up. She never asked her father if he visited, and they had not once come together, not in all the years since. Marlene Hudson’s death defined Olivia’s connection with her father. The life they led, the life her father had settled for, the foundation of the shaky relationship they had maintained, the bone-deep guilt that she now felt, all of it had it’s roots here, in the cold Tennessee dirt. These two narrow plots of land had made Dr. Olivia Hudson who she was. For better or worse. “I’m so sorry, Dad.” The tear was warm on her face for a moment. “I’m so, so sorry.” The stirring in the stars intensified.

I was born in Kentucky and raised in Florida, so I am a southerner through and through. Since I was old enough to pick up a book, I have been a voracious reader. I wrote the usual poetry and short stories in high school, and I kept the dream of writing in the back of my heart until opportunity and encouragement helped me to realize that dream. I live in Tampa with my kids, grandkids, dogs, various other livestock, and way more books than is strictly healthy. Hot Romance. Suspense. Humor & heart. Grown up stories for grown up people. This is what I write. There’s also food, music, dogs, the occasional geek reference, and quite possibly an inappropriate joke. There will likely be dead bodies as well. Three random facts about me: 1. I was bitten by a shark when I was 14. 2. I have read War and Peace. (When I get to the afterlife, I am demanding that week of my life back. Sorry, Tolstoy.) 3. It is my sincere belief that any situation can be improved by eating some cheese. My life philosophy is guard your inner peace and read dirty kissing books.

We are the Rossetti’s. The exiled “sixth” family of the New York mafia. We’re the good guys. People don’t fear us…much. They respect us. The five of us? We’re the Brooklyn Brothers. And we protect what’s ours.

Lexi Kozlov is a spoiled brat. Rich. Entitled. And unfortunately, she’s now my wife. The marriage is part of a deal I struck with her father…the boss of the Russian mafia. Insane? Maybe. But the payoff could mean millions for my family. Marriage is just a contract anyway. We barely even have to speak to each other. Piece of cake, right?

Wrong.

Lexi is not what I bargained for. Her millions of Instagram followers see her as an international sex symbol, but I’m learning that she’s so much more. I should be relieved that she’s the bachelorette to my bachelor. I shouldn’t want to convince her to turn our fake marriage into a real one.

But when her life is threatened, you better believe I’m going to protect my wife, contract or no contract. Because this sham marriage is the most real thing I’ve ever had in my life.

And I’m not about to let anyone take that away from me.

Nico

Take my mind off the bullshit, baby. God, she was a fucking vision. Outlined by orange and yellow radiance. Silhouetted by fire. Burnished in flames. My plan to relieve the tension in my neck had been to guzzle down about three glasses of whiskey, followed by some self-love in the shower later. Lexi’s idea was exponentially better. With pink-tinted cheeks, courtesy of her lingering buzz, she gifted me with the most subtly seductive, wildly erotic dance in the history of the world. If her willowy, feminine figure was carved into marble, like the Venus de Milo, people would come from all over the world just to behold its beauty. The way her curves rolled provocatively brought to mind the ivy that had wrapped itself around the columns at our Rovinj villa. Her petite nipples were clearly outlined through her thin cami, creating a salacious image. Those will be in my mouth tonight. She tipped her head back, letting all that shiny blond hair fall around her slender shoulders, a sultry grin gracing her sinful mouth. She swayed to the sounds of violin strings. The melody was maudlin—almost haunting—which only served to heighten the sexual charge energizing the space between us. “Lose the jeans,” I grated. I needed to see what delicate material was covering that ass. What had been in contact with her pussy all day, and what now shielded her femininity from me. What would become sodden with her juices, soaked in her scent, if I sucked those distended tips into my mouth. And what I would rip to fucking pieces if I decided to impale her with my cock right here on this chair. I needed her to show me. As I wondered whether or not she would obey my command, she seemed to be contemplating the same question. Then, miraculously, her slim fingers slid down her torso and opened her button. Next came the zipper. Then she took her sweet time slipping the painted-on jeans over her hips and down her thighs. As much as I appreciated the sensual way she moved every inch of that body, it was proving torturous to my self-control. My fingers dug into the armrest. “Get them the fuck off already.” Her mouth curved, her eyes half-lidded. “You didn’t specify how I should lose the jeans.” “As fast as goddamn possible. She finally stepped out of them and kicked them away. Just like the cami, her microscopic panties were silky with a lace trim. Only these were black as the midnight sky, while her cami was a pretty ivory. Another enigma. On top was guileless innocence. Down below was confident siren. But in that moment, all of Lexi was wanton and willing. “Show me your ass,” I demanded. “I want to see how it looks in those little fuck-me panties. Let me see what’s been filling out those jeans so well.”

A coy smile touched the edges of her mouth as she rotated her hips and presented her back to me. As if anticipating my next command, she automatically lifted the cami a couple of inches so I could see everything.

I sucked in a breath. “There it is.”

Her cheeks spilled out the bottom, exposing matching dimples on the undersides that begged for my tongue to lave and my teeth to nip. This woman’s entire backside just needed to be sampled. When she bent over slightly, sticking it up in the air, I was teased with an image of her bent over my pool table, those firm, rounded cheeks cradling my dick as I drove it brutally hard into her. And the overall shape of it… “It’ll be a perfect fit for my hands,” I murmured. “With those long legs, it’s at just the right height.” For a good, rough pounding. That prompted her to give it a little shake. I chuckled darkly. She had no idea what beastly urges she was provoking inside me. No idea how quickly the tether leashing my restraint could snap if she pushed far and hard enough. Balancing herself on her toes, like a graceful, naughty ballerina—enigma—she turned back to me. Her skin would be warm from the fire. Bet I could give her goosebumps if I placed my cool lips on the heated flesh of her neck, or the swell of her breasts. I crooked my finger at her. “Bring that over to me.” She bit her bottom lip. “What will you do when I get there?” I chose honesty. “Destroy you.” Her breath hitched. My eyebrow went up. “Scared?” Her sumptuous lips parted. “Intrigued.” I spread my legs invitingly. “Prove it.”

Melanie grew up in a small town in rural Missouri. After marrying her husband, she decided she wanted to try coastal life because why not? A few months later, they moved to North Carolina where she discovered her passion for writing, and they never looked back. They are now enjoying life with their beautiful daughter in Savannah, GA and loving every minute with their little Georgia peach.

Melanie’s other passion is traveling and seeing the world. With anthropology degrees under their belts, she and her husband have made it their goal in life to see as many archaeological sites around the world as possible.

She has a horrible food addiction to pasta and candy (not together…ew). And she gets sad when her wine rack is empty.

At the end of the day, she is a true romantic at heart. She loves writing the cheesy and corny of romantic comedies, and the sassy and sexy of suspense. She aims to make her readers swoon, laugh out loud, maybe sweat a little, and above all, fall in love.

Claire leaned in closer, nuzzling her cheek against my chest as we watched the sky light up. With every bang, she tensed, squealing and squeezing my leg as her body jolted. Between the explosions, her fingertips worked busily, making tiny circles on my thigh as she anxiously awaited the next thrill. Her enthusiasm was invigorating, her laughter contagious, and her touch was like a warm salve. Tender. Soothing. Yet so damn powerful. Spending the evening with her was nothing short of comforting. Something I had craved for so long. Holding her felt remarkably familiar, like I was home. And when she reached over and intwined her fingers with mine, I had a brief flash of us sitting together watching fireworks just like this for many years to come.

As the finale exploded, I couldn’t resist the urge to kiss her any longer. Pulling my hand from hers, I lifted her chin, bringing her face close to mine. Her smile told me she knew exactly what I had in mind.

I swallowed, my gaze steady on hers. “Might wanna close your eyes for this,” I whispered.

As the hand on my thigh stilled, the other slid around my neck. “It’s about time, cowboy.”

I heard something in her tone that made my heart spasm. Had she been wanting this too? Her fingers traced up my neck, pulling me closer. I leaned in further and her eyes slowly closed. Holding her chin ever so gently, I pressed my lips to hers. I kissed her softly, once, twice, three times, then parted her lips with my tongue. As I explored her mouth, burying my fingers in her hair, her hand groped my thigh, causing my shorts to grow tighter and tighter. Never had I ever tasted lips so sweet. Never before had anything felt so right, so perfect. I knew without a doubt Claire was the one for me, the one I’d been searching for, waiting for, longing for all these years. She was the one. And I never wanted to let her go.

Shannon Davis grew up in Northwest Florida where she developed a love of writing as a young girl, keeping countless diaries and notebooks filled with short stories. After college, she followed her love of mathematics and became a high school math teacher. She retired from the classroom after nearly three decades to pursue her lifelong dream of writing.

A military wife and mother of three college-aged children, she and her husband reside in Georgia with their three dogs and four cats. When she is not writing, Shannon enjoys traveling, baking, and outdoor activities. An avid reader of women’s fiction and love stories, she is a sucker for happy endings. Her love of the south coupled with romance is evident in her novels, Worth the Risk and Worth the Wait, books one and two in the Southern Fairy Tale series.

Veterinarian Olivia Hudson was just a small-town girl with simple needs. She had the prerequisite three wishes. She wanted a makeup that covered her freckles. She needed people to stop feeding their dogs chicken bones. She craved a decent man who would love her, only her, beyond all reason and rational thought. None of those wishes was coming true. Until a mountain of a man with tattoos and a deliciously dirty mouth landed at her front door, and things started looking up.
