The moon hid behind the highest rise of the Peaks of Eternity. Black clouds hung heavy in the sky. Zanna’s senses felt dull. They told her there should still have been rain. A storm with thunder and lightning. Instead, it felt as though the night held its breath. “Master?” Arlo asked, his voice subdued as he stared out over the walls. “Does the darkness scare you?”
“You get used to it,” Zanna replied, putting an arm around his shoulders.
“No, I mean tonight. There’s something… odd.”Zanna glanced at him. She felt it too. The night held a strange quality. All too quiet, but a tense quivering underpinned the silence. Feeling eyes on her, she
scanned the rampart and saw they were alone. At first, she thought it her imagination, but faint sounds drifted to her. The sound of whispers that lingered at the edge of her hearing.
“You’re right, Arlo,” she said, gazing across the ramparts. Lit braziers dotted the walls that ran a half-mile in each direction. She drew their flames inside her, the sensation thrilling her. Arlo’s eyes widened at the depth of her power. Zanna kept pulling fire into her, her limbs filling with warmth, heat, power. It made her feel alive, to the point she wanted to keep drawing, to not let go. A struggle every Sparker contended with.
“We need light.”
Quivering with energy and almost at her limit, Zanna lifted her hands to the skie sand unleashed a fountain of flame across the heavens, lighting up the plains for miles below them.
“Oh, teeth of the gods,” she whispered, taking in the sight below before darkness swallowed the flames. She turned to Arlo. The colour had drained from his face and tears filled his wide, blue eyes. His fingers dug into the stone ramparts as he gripped the wall.
“Raas preserve us. Get Protector Garet. Run. Can you do that?”
Arlo nodded and shot away, leaving Zanna alone. She looked out over the ramparts again. The darkness hid them as they spilled over the distant hills. An army marched across the slate plains towards Solitude. Thousands of them. The Banished were coming. And less than two hundred Sparkers, with a single apprentice, stood in their way.

You probably already have plans with some other woman, and I’m trying to make it about me. Obviously, you’re ready to go. So, let me —“
I cut her ramble off with my tongue and pulled her flush against me, pressing my erection into her stomach. I broke off the kiss, both of us panting. “This is how hard I am for you. I don’t have plans tonight, but I want you too much to just be near you and pretend that I don’t want anything more than to be your first. Your condition is commitment, and you know I don’t do love.”

ABOUT TIYE
I recalled reading romance ever since I was a young child and would sneak and read the Western love stories my grandmother kept on her bedside table. Although I didn’t understand half of the words, I read at the time, something about those books captured my attention. As I grew older, my love of romance expanded to other genres. I became a fan of anything remotely related to reading and books, such as libraries, bookstores, and the coffee shop around the corner. I love dancing with my family, traveling and romance movies. I have lived in several cities, including New Orleans, Washington D.C., and Houston, and I find inspiration for my stories from every place I’ve had the fortune to visit or inhabit.
I want my readers to escape their realities and embark on a journey of self-exploration and love when they delve into my books. I’ve loved reading fiction, thrillers, and romance for years. Although my original (and still) writing interest was YA and self-help books, I received a surprise text on Valentine’s Day and wrote the first chapter of a romance novel. And I became forever inspired to write spicy love stories – with a twist.

Zelah Roberts can usually be found with her head in a book, and more often than not, that book will be a romance. Writing a novel was always her number 1 ambition, and eventually, with Midsummer Man (released on 15 June 2021) it became a reality.
When not absorbed in the latest enthralling page-turner, Zelah enjoys cooking for family and friends and taking long walks in the beautiful English countryside. She is a member of the Romantic Novelists’ Association and is working towards an MA in Creative Writing.
