Some of my favorite movies are the Disney animated movies released from 1984 through 2007… when my children were growing up. With movies like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty & the Beast, I’d be hard-pressed to choose a favorite, but none were viewed anymore than 1998’s Mulan.
An animated, comedic retelling of the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the movie included several songs. Walt Disney Records released a soundtrack shortly after the movie premiered. Two of the album’s tracks, Reflection and True to Your Heart, were released as singles.
Sang by boy band 98 Degrees and the legendary Stevie Wonder, True to Your Heart reached number 51 on the Adult Contemporary chart… and features Wonder on the harmonica.
FUN FACTS:
- Walt Disney’s Original Soundtrack from Mulan was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score but lost to Shakespeare in Love.
- The album peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard 200 on July 18, 1998.
- The album also included vocalists Lea Salonga, Donny Osmond, Jaz Coleman, and Christina Aguilera.
