Song Lyric Sunday — The Cars and The Chicks

The Chicks (formerly Dixie Chicks) have never shied away from hot topics, and they’re not about to start. Stop by Judi’s to see their powerful video!

J.E.M. Wildfire

When I saw Jim Adams picked cool/freeze/heat/melt for this week’s Song Lyric Sunday theme, I had every intention of sharing “Cool Fool,” a Cars anomaly co-written by Ric Ocasek and Elliot Easton.

Then a stunning video scrolled onto my Facebook feed.  “March March” is one-half of a double-whammy, released June 25, the same day the Dixie Chicks dropped “dixie” and became The Chicks. A protest song from their current “Gaslighter” album, “March March” hits today’s hot button issues — gun control, global warming, women’s rights, lies masquerading as truth, and racism. The last minute is a gut punch that stopped me cold. Read the lyrics here later. Give the video your full attention. “’If your voice held no power, they wouldn’t try to silence you.’ – unknown. Use your VOICE. Use your VOTE.”

2020… So Far, So Bad

Jerry speaks softly… and uses his words well! This is excellent! 😊

Jerry Brotherton

We were so damned naive and innocent
for four years we ignored your warning call
that you just might be the apocalypse
coming here to put an end to us all

You started out as the flames of hellfire
burned brightly across the Australian land
destroying almost everything in sight
as we watched we still did not understand

There were so many other commotions
that seemed more important to us you see
We had Jen and Brad, Harry and Meghan
Brexit and the tragic death of Kobe

As congress took their one glorious chance
each moment had us glued to our smart phones
As they impeached the unimpeachable
but Republicans kept him on the throne

Then we heard about that Chinese flu thing
They said nearly everyone was dying
But our potentates were pounding their chests
and telling us that they were just lying

Said it was no more than…

Throughout history, The Lady, Goddess of the Lycan world, has gifted werewolf packs with humans who carry her mark. Theodora Morrissey’s plans to return to college for her graduate degree are ended when she is awakened by an otherworldly voice on a rarely used airstrip in Nebraska. Injured and disoriented, she has no idea the discoloration on her back has marked her as a Seer, and that she is now a possession—and the prisoner—of the Novus Pack of Lycans.

To the Novus pack, the word of their leader, their Laird, is the law. With compelling gray eyes and long dark hair, Raider Black rules his pack with intelligence and ruthlessness. To cement the security of his pack, Black has committed to mate another Packleader’s daughter. But he’s finding it impossible to fight his attraction to the pack’s alluring new Seer, claiming her as his own.

Sweet, fearless, and unintentionally funny, Theo upends Black’s world and pushes the boundaries of his rules. How far is Black willing to go, and what will he sacrifice, to save both his pack and the human Seer who’s found a way not only into his bed, but his heart?
