She played a detective on TV, but now that her life depends on it, can Maizie Albright play a detective for real?
For fans of romantic comedy mysteries like Meg Cabot’s Size 12 Is Not Fat and Stephanie Bond’s Body Movers, The Wall Street Journal best-selling author Larissa Reinhart brings her listeners the first in the Maizie Albright Star Detective series, Hot Mystery Reviews’ “Top 10 Mysteries for Book Clubs”.
”Child star and hilarious hot mess Maizie Albright trades Hollywood for the backwoods of Georgia and pure delight ensues. Maizie’s my new favorite escape from reality.” (Gretchen Archer, USA Today best-selling author of the Davis Way Crime Caper series)
Three Teen Choice Awards, one Emmy nomination, and several Maxim covers later, Maizie Albright was an ex-teen star, stuck in reality show hell, and standing before a California judge. She has one chance for a new life: return home to Black Pine, Georgia, and get a job that has nothing to do with show business. So why not become a private detective – the person she played during the happiest days of her life?
Maybe because…
First: She’s got 10 days to get and keep the job.
Second: She has to convince the only private investigator in town to hire her.
Third: She lost the client’s wife on the first day. (And the woman may be dead…)
Fourth: She just might be falling in love with her new boss. And she just might have lost him his business.
But what has she got to lose, other than imprisonment, her dignity, and possibly, her life?

An Interview with Maizie Albright from the Maizie Albright Star Detective Series
Nice to meet you, Maizie Albright. Tell us about yourself.
Thanks for having me on, I’m thrilled to be here. I’m the former star of the hit TV show Julia Pinkerton, Teen Detective. I also starred in Kung Fu Kate, the reality show All Is Albright, and a bunch of TV-movies, commercials, and some guest spots on other shows. But now I’m remaking myself into a real-life Julia Pinkerton. Except I’m no longer a teenager. I’m all about adulting.
How old are you?
Twenty-five. But I can play from anywhere between 19 to about 40.
And where do you live?
Currently Black Pine, Georgia. Judge Ellis sent me home to live with my father as dictated by the terms of my probation. I also had to find a job that had nothing to do with the entertainment industry. Which fits in perfectly with my career makeover, so I don’t see it as probation. I see it more as a promotion.
What do you do?
I’m very excited to say I’m a private investigator. Actually, I need to apprentice for two years before I can get licensed. Actually-actually, I’m mostly trying not to get fired from Nash Security Solutions, the only private investigation firm in Black Pine. I begged asked Wyatt Nash to hire me. Officially, you could say my profession is…not an actress. And that was my decision. As well as being in the terms of my probation.
Are you in a relationship?
*blushes* No. At least not outside my head. Inside my head, there’s just this thing for my boss. But don’t worry, I always costar-crush. I’ve had a series of fiances, which have all ended badly. But better a bad engagement than a good divorce, I always say!
Actually, I’ve never said that. But I’m really glad I didn’t marry any of them. And that leaves room for my boss…
Who is your boss?
Wyatt Nash. He owns Nash Security Solutions, located above the Dixie Kreme Donut Shop in Black Pine, Georgia. He’s a private investigator with a hard body, a wicked scar on his chin, and the same eye color as Paul Newman. Which doesn’t affect his profession. But it does affect me. In a good way. Maybe too good…
Do you have family in Black Pine?
My dad’s. I have a six-year-old half-sister, Remi—Remington Marie Spayberry. She was named after Daddy’s second favorite rifle. Her mother Carol Lynn thought the name was adorable, just like Remi. My middle name, Marlin, is Daddy’s favorite rifle. Which he sneakily wrote on my birth certificate when my mother was knocked out on post-birth painkillers.
I guess I should mention Vicki, who just moved to town. Hopefully temporarily. I don’t expect her to stick around once she truly understands I don’t plan to work for the industry anymore. And that includes working for her and her reality show, All Is Albright. Vicki’s my ex-manager.
I’m counting her in the family question because Vicki’s also my mother.
Do you have friends in your hometown?
Tiffany and Rhonda. They are two people, but they come as a package. And they do hair and nails. Which is like a bonus blessing. I’m also getting to know the Dixie Kreme Donut Shop, Lamar. He’s an older guy and an ex-cop, and he likes to hang out at Nash Security Solutions. I think Nash sees him as a father figure. He’s becoming one to me, too.
What’s your favorite food?
Anything fried. Currently, I’m on a fried pickle and donut kick. Not together. Although I could, except I’ve not found them in the same place. There’s an idea for a future restaurant entrepreneur.
Any words to other young women looking to become a private investigator?
Never give up on your dream!
And if you’re doing surveillance, don’t let your ex-manager/still-mother stop her Escalade in front of your car. You’ll lose the woman you’re tailing and screw things up for your boss in the worst way imaginable.
Thanks so much for having me here today. Your questions were fun and not at all embarrassing and personally invasive. Been there, done that, and was too humiliated to keep that T-shirt.
The Maizie Albright Star Detective Playlist
by Larissa Reinhart
If I was going to describe Maizie Albright, my heroine from 15 MINUTES, I’d use the show tune “Cockeyed Optimist” from South Pacific. Maizie’s bubbly and optimistic, but slightly naive. To me, she’s happy pop music that seeks to uplift the listener. I added a few edgier songs as reminders of the demons from her past that landed her in the mess she finds herself in at the beginning of 15 MINUTES. But overall, like Maizie, her song list portrays a bright outlook toward her life makeover from celebrity to private investigator.
Also included in the list are songs that remind me of her boss and love interest, Wyatt Nash. The private investigator and owner of Nash Security Solutions seems as hard and intimidating as his muscled body and the wicked little scar on his chin, but Maizie sees beneath the gruff exterior to the heart of a man who seeks to help those who need protection. His songs are a bit grittier, hint at his true feelings toward Maizie, and mainly represent his wardrobe which consists of heavy metal and classic rock concert t-shirts.
I hope you enjoy the list and give it a listen!
