4/5 Stars

Investigative reporter Emma Thomas is on a mission to revive her career and reclaim her life… and her dignity. Using the information from an anonymous informant, all she needs is to get photos of a suspected drop location in her hometown of Staunton, Virginia to give her drug trafficking expose the weight it needs to get her back in the game.

She finds the drop spot in the woods but instead of finding drugs, Emma witnesses a murder, and the baddies intend for her to be the next victim.

Her dash to safety leads Emma to former best friend and first crush, Detective Adam Marshall. A misunderstanding and tragedy have kept them apart for over a decade, but time and distance hasn’t changed their hearts. Death threats and more attempts on Emma’s life could be the catalysts to force Adam to choose which he’s willing to sacrifice—his career or the life of the woman he’s loved since grade school.

Adam Marshall is the nice guy/everyman trying to be a decent cop and get through each day. He focuses on his career to forget everything he’s lost and avoid the guilt for the parts he played.

Emma left Staunton for the same reasons, but despite them both moving on, they’re still weighed down by the past. Honestly, these two have enough baggage and drama between them to fill an Andrew Lloyd Webber stage production. Their banter got annoying for me in a few spots because they were talking without really saying anything.

I felt bad for Adam with the love of his life stumbling into a case he’s been working on for months. He has to admit things to himself he wasn’t ready for. I’m not too quick to extend the same grace to Emma. She annoyed me. With all they’ve both gone through together and apart, neither of them did anything “wrong,” but she was too confrontational for me, looking to argue with Adam over anything. Trying to mask her true feelings? Perhaps. But it led her to make too many dangerous decisions and took her far too long to understand the gravity of their situation. One minute she was, “I could die today,” and the next, “But what about my story?” Meh.

But liking characters isn’t required to enjoy a story. Murder on the Mountain is an enjoyable read with a solid plot. Tensions and emotions run high when the chief villain is exposed and it’s not clear who will live to see another day.

My favorite scenes: Emma in the closet; and Pablo in the closet. HA! Don’t ask, just grab this one today.

Enjoy!

Emma Thomas hasn’t been home in years. Only back in Staunton for a few months, she plans to put her investigative reporter skills to use in exposing the trafficking group using her peaceful, idyllic hometown to move drugs. But when she stumbles onto more than drugs, bullets start flying and she has to ask the one person she left Virginia to avoid for help.

Detective Adam Marshall has been working this cartel case for months. On the precipice of breaking the organization wide open, he can’t believe the one woman he’d never been able to get over now holds the key to closing his case. His head warns him to steer clear, but his heart won’t let him walk away when Emma’s life is on the line.

Thrown together by chance after so many years, Adam and Emma work together to break the biggest case of both of their careers and heal some old wounds in the process. Falling in love wasn’t on the docket for either of them, but things don’t always go as planned.

Emma reached up and straightened the collar on the flannel shirt he wore. As a kid, he had always been half a mess. One shirt-tail untucked, unruly hair, a half-popped collar. Emma liked things neat and orderly and had always been the one to keep him straight. It was kind of nice to do it again. She smiled up at him. “I feel the same way. This is our home and I hate what these criminals are doing to it.”He toyed with a strand of her hair. “So, you’ll behave and let me do my job?”

She pushed him away. “I’m not a child, Adam.”

Adam put his arms around her and pulled her close. Emma studied the floorboards, hoping Adam didn’t notice the heat in her cheeks. She couldn’t be sure it was from her anger at him rather than his nearness so she chose to believe the former.

“Look at me, Emma.” He spoke softly but there was something different in his voice. Something she hadn’t heard there before. Not when they were kids and definitely not in the last few days. “Emma? Please.”

Slowly she looked up at him. He had those storm clouds in his eyes again. “What?”

“You are the farthest thing from a child. When I look at you, I see a woman. A woman I want to know better. A woman I never thought would ever walk into my life again. Fate brought you back to me and I’m not about to take that lightly.”

A single tear escaped the corner of her left eye and ran a trail down her cheek. “I don’t want to lose you either. You were the best friend I’ve ever had. We should have supported each other after Miranda’s death, not run away from each other. Maybe if we had, so many things would have been different.”

#RelaunchBlitz “Stirred Passions Series” by Madelynne Ellis

Re-launch Blitz

Stirred Passions Series

by New York Times & USA Today bestselling author Madelynne Ellis.

STIRRED PASSIONS SERIES

Cherry Bomb (Stirred Passions #1)
They couldn’t be more wrong for each other.
Flicka Caine
Chinchilla Studios has owned me since I was seven years old. At nineteen I want out. That means ensuring the Caine Chronicles isn’t renewed for another season.
Cue Operation Bad Girl – and being seen with quintessential British bad boy, and destroyer of reputations far purer than mine, Dare Wilde.
Dare Wilde
Flicka Caine lands in my lap like a cherry bomb, fuse already lit. She might taste like spun sugar but there’s nothing sweet about the ache she causes.
Too bad that she typecasts me like all the rest. So I turn her cute arse down.
That should be the end of it; turns out, it’s only the beginning.
Cherry Bomb is the first full length standalone coming-of-age romance in the Stirred Passions series, about the Sunsetters, a group of bisexual A-list actors and the women and men who love them.

Black Velvet (Stirred Passions #2)
Lorne
My best friend just hooked up with the girl of his dreams. To say I’m devastated is an understatement. But, it’s nothing a nice rebound relationship can’t fix.
At least that’s the story I spin myself.
So, go out. Get drunk. Get laid. Wake up fixed.
It’s a plan. A sound plan. Even a half sensible one.
That’d be why I seduce my straight—questioning—soon to be new co-star instead.
But it’s cool. It’s fine. Honestly.
Until she shows up.
His very wet dream. In our bath tub.
And then we get snowed in.
Black Velvet is a steamy emotional romance featuring a heart-broken hero, a videogame geek, and an unexpected guest. It includes M/F, M/M, & M/M/F encounters. Dive in and discover why readers say no one writes bisexual bad boys like Madelynne Ellis.

Soul Kiss (Stirred Passions #3)
Dylan Drake
Kira Carter-Wells—badass bodyguard, and the most unconvincing “fake” date for the evening ever presented by a studio exec.
Guys, seriously, I’ve been out and proud since I was eleven. Women do naff all for me. Zero groin excitement. This is a farce.
Kira Carter-Wells.
My mission, keep my drop dead sexy charge away from any knife-wielding maniacs and tuck him into bed early. Alone. It should be simple. He’s gay. I’m straight. Zero complications should arise.
I don’t understand the sparks that ignite between us any more than he does, but once lit there’s no snuffing them out.
It can’t possibly work. Or can it?
One of us is going to wind up hurt, and I’m damn sure it’s not going to be me.
Soul Kiss is an angst heavy, trope-twisting, bodyguard romance, encompassing one man’s journey of self-discovery. It contains M/M and M/F depictions. If you’re not okay with the complexities of human sexuality, best give this one a miss.

Screw Driver (Stirred Passions Bomb Shots #1)

“Tyler Beauford is a truly awful lay!”

Faced with such a joyful headline my burgeoning acting career is doomed. Who wants a leading man with a hair trigger?
So, when my best-mate, Seth Lindsay, proposes a threesome with pop sensation Nixie Owen in order to restore my bad boy credentials, I figure, what’s to lose?
Too bad Seth omitted to mention a couple of things…
