Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time and author Jim Adams from A Unique Title For Me is our current host. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.

This week’s theme is  Give/Get/Take/Receive/Send.

~~~
From her third studio album, 25, Send My Love (To Your New Lover) is an uptempo, rhythmic song, Adele describes as a “happy you’re gone” song dedicated to an ex-boyfriend. It was a collaboration by Adele, Max Martin and Shellback.
The song reached #1 on the Pop, Adult Pop, and Adult Contemporary charts and Billboard ranked Send My Love (To Your New Lover) at number 26 on their 100 Best Pop Songs of 2016 list.
Pretty sure I used this a couple of years ago, but it’s Adele! Sue me! 😀 😀 😀
FUN FACTS:
  • Adele plays guitar and provides background vocals on the song track.
  • Send My Love (To Your New Lover) was originally intended to be the first release from 25 before Hello was chosen instead.
  • The track was recorded at two studios; MXM Studios in Stockholm and Eastcote Studios in London.
  • At the last minute, Adele changed the title of the song from We Ain’t Kids No More to Send My Love (To Your New Lover).
  • The track is a reworked skeleton of a song Adele wrote when she was thirteen years old after being inspired by the release of Frank (2003) by Amy Winehouse.
Enjoy!
Send My Love (To Your New Lover)
[Intro]
Just the guitar?
Okay, cool
[Verse 1]
This was all you, none of it me
You put your hands on, on my body and told me
Mmm, told me you were ready
For the big one, for the big jump
I’d be your last love, everlasting, you and me
Mmm, that was what you told me
[Pre-Chorus]
I’m giving you up
I’ve forgiven it all
You set me free
[Chorus]
Send my love to your new lover
Treat her better
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
Send my love to your new lover
Treat her better
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
[Verse 2]
I was too strong, you were trembling
You couldn’t handle the hot heat rising (rising)
Mmm, baby, I’m still rising
I was running, you were walking
You couldn’t keep up, you were falling down (down)
Mmm, there’s only one way down
[Pre-Chorus]
I’m giving you up
I’ve forgiven it all
You set me free, oh
[Chorus]
Send my love to your new lover
Treat her better
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
Send my love to your new lover
Treat her better
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
[Bridge]
If you’re ready, if you’re ready
If you’re ready, I am ready
If you’re ready, if you’re ready
We both know we ain’t kids no more
No, we ain’t kids no more
[Pre-Chorus]
I’m giving you up
I’ve forgiven it all
You set me free
[Chorus]
Send my love to your new lover
Treat her better
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
Send my love to your new lover
Treat her better
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
[Outro]
If you’re ready, if you’re ready
(Send my love to your new lover)
If you’re ready, are you ready?
(Treat her better)
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
If you’re ready, if you’re ready
(Send my love to your new lover)
If you’re ready, are you ready?
(Treat her better)
We’ve gotta let go of all of our ghosts
We both know we ain’t kids no more
