I’ve either established a pattern… or started a tradition as my SLS Christmas selection last year was by this same artist and from the same album.

Luther Vandross’ tenth studio album, This is Christmas, was his first Christmas album. This is Christmas released in October of 1995. Though it received mixed reviews from music critics, the public thought otherwise and the album went to number 28 on the US Billboard Top 200 and number 4 on both the US Top Holiday Albums (Billboard) and US Top R&B/Hip/Hop Albums (Billboard).

FUN FACTS

• The title track was never released as a single, but did lend its name to Vandross’ Christmas Special that same year where he performed the song, and a music video was made of the performance.
• R&B and Gospel artist, Cissy Houston–mother to Whitney–is featured in the special and music video.
•  A steady seller throughout the Christmas season, This is Christmas was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and continues to be a holiday favorite twenty-five years after its release.
