History – After a number of years of different establishments selling their version of Buffalo Wings, the city of Buffalo, NY in 1977 proclaimed July 29th to be National Chicken Wing Day. Establishments like the Anchor Bar, Wings n’ Things and Duff’s all became famous for their wings.

Wings are my favorite part of the chicken! Along with chicken breasts, they’re the only chicken I buy.
Last year, I prepared six different types of wings to celebrate #NationalChickenWingDay, but now that I’m alone, this year will be on a much lower key.
But there will still be wings… I’m ordering in!
Regardless if they’re called hot wings, buffalo wings, drummies, or wingettes, chicken wings can be ordered in just about every pizza parlor, Denny’s, IHOP, Applebee’s, Cheddar’s, and local mom and pop restaurants in the country. Even some gas station/convenience stores sell wings. Hello, Chester’s Chicken!
However, not all chicken wings are not created equal.
I’ve had wings from most of the popular franchises over the years, and while there are dozens of sauces and seasonings with cute, catchy names, many of these wing entrees have one thing in common.
They’re not cooked to an adequate doneness.
.Be it a wing, leg or thigh, chicken should pull away easily from the bone. One should not have to engage in a tug of war with a piece of meat or risk chipping a tooth. (And there has to be a bone! Keep your boneless wings to yourself! 😦 )
Yet, with so many restaurants preparing orders with timed cooking from posted charts, undone chicken is all too often the result.
It’s okay with some people, and others truly don’t know any better.
It’s unacceptable to me. I’ve had food poisoning because of improperly prepared food, and that’s not a party I plan to attend again.
So, where will I get wings to celebrate #NationalChickenWingDay?
From the only place where I’ve never been served an undone order of wings… Buffalo Wild Wings.
My sons and late husband made it a point to explore the entire menu, but I’ve never ordered anything other than wings and onion rings from BWW.
And that works for me.
If you don’t already have a favorite wing stop, it could work for you too… because how could you not celebrate #NationalChickenWingDay?
Enjoy!
