Edith is a white witch, a healer by nature. She’s in training to become a full witch and part of her covenant of Magiks.

However, before she can complete her training, she’s betrayed by her lover, Anto, suffers a devastating loss and flees from all she knows.

She ends up at a seaside village six hours from Sydney a week before Beltane and feels her psychic intuition led her to this place, just as it leads her to open a small shop, Crystal Sands, for healing. She needs time to heal herself and concentrate on her magical abilities, not the humiliation she suffered because of Anto or the disappointment her parents have in her for leaving him and the city.

Voltaire is a plumber, also used and betrayed by a lover. While working himself out of the financial hole she leaves him in, he’s also coming to terms with the loss of his mother and sister to breast cancer.

When Edi and Volt meet, the attraction is instant. But she’s sworn off relationships until she has healed and can trust her own judgment, and he’s closed his heart because of the way his ex turned his life upside down. He’s also not a fan of the “new age” stuff Edi practices because his mom and sister were believers and it did them no good.

Despite their broken hearts and better judgments, these two do get together, and it’s not a bad thing. They’re a cute couple.

This quick read has a good premise and story build that draws you right in.

Unfortunately, for me, there wasn’t enough follow through, and it could use a good edit.

Edi reflects on her past and the thing that happened but leaves too many unanswered questions. She’s a walking contradiction and I don’t know if it’s what she went through with Anto, the coming of Beltane, or just her personality, but her thoughts were jumbled and all over the place.

I don’t know the rules of Wicca or fantasy Wicca, or even fantasy magic if such rules exist, but for a witch-in-training who spoke of her lack of powers, Edi sure did a lot.

Volt doesn’t believe, then he does, then he doesn’t… choose a side already!

And what about Sol, the ghost?

Beltane Bliss is a light romance sure to appeal to romance readers and lovers of the supernatural. It has a nice ending that doesn’t feel rushed, but I needed the story fleshed out more.
