Song Lyric Sunday | “One Last Cry” – Brian McKnight

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time and author Jim Adams from A Unique Title For Me is our current guest host. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.

This week’s theme is  “crying/sadness.

~~~~~~~~~~
The first song that came to mind for this week’s theme is by one of my favorite male artists… but I’m not a big fan of the song. 😀 😀 😀
One Last Cry was issued as the fourth single from Brian McKnight’s debut album. It was McKnight’s first solo hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at #13 on the chart in 1993.
It’s not a bad song. It’s been covered by more than half a dozen artists including Justin Timberlake and Billy Crawford. It’s just one of those songs that hearing it one time too many can get on your nerves… like Terry Jack’s Seasons in the Sun. Or maybe it’s just me. 😀
FUN FACTS:
  • The official music video for One Last Cry is directed by Leta Warner who also directed the video for Faith Hill’s But I Will.
  • Despite my annoyance ( 😀 ), One Last Cry stayed on the music charts a total of twenty-five weeks and is ranked 54th for 1993.
Enjoy!
  1. I remember when this song came out, and yes… it was played to death. But now that it’s been a year or two since I last listened, it’s not so bad. Everything in moderation, as they say…
  2. LOL only YOU would pick a song that annoys you! 😂
    I totally get that, though – for me, it’s anything Hootie and The Blowfish, but especially “I Only Wanna Be With You”, ugh! On top of being over-played, there’s just something about Darius Rucker’s voice that makes me cringe so bad I’m like those creatures on Rampage – I can’t shut it off fast enough! LOL It will and has literally woken me out of a dead sleep to turn the radio off #NoJoke.
    1. Son #2 loved all things Hootie so I can relate. HOWEVER, there is something about “Only Lonely on the Inside” that reels me right in! 😁
      There are two cringe-worthy voices that I never, ever, ever want played anywhere near me – 1) the late Teena Marie and 2) Beyonce. Those voices grate on my very late nerve and I run away like I’m on fire. 😂
      Teena was huge in my club days and the night always ended for me when they played her duet with Rick James, “Fire & Desire.” Folks raced to the dance floor – I raced to my car! 😂
      Beyonce? No…just no. That warbling jars my back teeth. 😜 #NoJoke
      1. I admit, the only song I think of when I hear Teena Marie is “Lovergirl” but that was also over-played and it’s super long!
        I’ve never had a problem with Beyonce’s voice, but I also don’t have more than a few songs of hers in my library, usually calabs with Usher or Sean Paul. But, at last now I know who NEVER to pick for #SLS! LMAO
