Please help me welcome Rachel J. Bonner, author of Strand of Faith, to Nesie’s Place today!

Welcome, Rachel! Let’s jump right in and tell us how long have you been a writer?

That’s difficult to put a timescale on. This story developed in my thoughts over several years.  In the end I had to write it down just to get my head space back – I have a hard enough time remembering what is going on in my own life, let alone the lives of all these characters.  And once it was written down, I was a writer, so I got on with polishing it and getting it ready for publication.  But I suppose I started writing it down about four years ago.

Are you self-published, traditional, or hybrid?

Self-published, but I’ve started my own publishing company, Isbin Books.  For now, it only publishes me, but in the future – who knows?

How long did it take you to write your first book?

Another difficult question to put a timescale on.  The story was developing in my thoughts for at least four years before I started writing it down.  Although I started writing it down about four years ago, in those four years I have written at least the first and second drafts of all four books in the series.

Pantser or Plotter?

Pantser definitely. The story develops on the page and sometimes the characters go off and do their own thing, which is often very different from what I expected.

What’s your favorite genre to write or do you only write in one genre?

So far, I’ve only written this series, so I guess paranormal romance has to be my favourite genre!

Where do you get the most writing done?

In my study, which is a grand name for a not very big space.  It’s way too messy to share a photograph.

What’s your favorite genre to read?

Fantasy, preferably with a bit of romance.  And I like a happy ending, always, though it doesn’t have to be standalone, I enjoy series too.

Do you venture into other genres other than your preferred?

Yes, I’ll read anything though I prefer to avoid horror and psychological suspense.  I like to be able to sleep at night.

What are you reading now?

I’m usually reading something on my Kindle and something in paperback at the very least.  On my Kindle I’ve just finished Postcards from a Stranger by Imogen Clark. It was about how people take decisions and keep secrets, in good faith, which may come back to haunt others.  And how different women have reacted to the controlling men in their lives. I can recommend it.  In paperback I’ve just started The Masked City which is the second book in Genevieve Cogman’s Invisible Library series. I love the idea that different realities can be connected through libraries.

Totally addicted to social media or could you live without it?

I could live without it, though I do enjoy it.  I limit myself to Facebook no more than once a day, and Twitter two to four times a day.  Is that a lot?

LOL! Not even close. I know people who keep windows open to both all day!

What’s your favorite beverage to read with?

Either a cup of tea and some chocolate or a mug of hot chocolate.

Do you have any advice for new authors?

Finish it. It’s very easy to start something new, but it’s not nearly so easy to plough on and finish it.  So, if you do finish it, you’re already ahead of the game.

Many thanks to Rachel for stopping by the blog today! Check out her new release, Strand of Faith, and don’t forget to enter her awesome giveaway!

Strand of Faith coverWhen the choice is between love and life, how can anyone decide?

A girl and a monk, both with extraordinary mental powers, have compelling reasons not to fall in love.  But those from whom they expect support are manipulating them both because their choices will have consequences for the rest of the world.

After a stormy youth, Brother Prospero has found comfort and fulfillment in the monastery.  That is, until he discovers something that forces him to reconsider his whole vocation.  To follow his heart, he’ll have to face his demons again, outside the security of the monastery. Is it worth the risk?  Can he beat them this time? Or will they finally destroy him?

Orphaned and mistreated, Leonie has found sanctuary and safety at the abbey.  All she wants is to learn how to manage her unusual abilities so that she is not a danger to those around her.  When she comes into contact with Prospero everything threatens to spiral out of her control.  Whether she leaves or whether she stays, how can she possibly avoid destroying – yet again – those she has come to care about?

Abbot Gabriel is faced with an impossible choice.  He can do nothing and watch the world descend into war.  Or he can manipulate events and ensure peace – at the cost of two lives that he is responsible for.  He knows what he has to do but is he strong enough to sacrifice those he loves?

Author Bio

Rachel J Bonner is the author of the four book Choices and Consequences series, the first of which, Strand of Faith, is due out in November 2018.

Getting a degree in engineering, followed by a career in accountancy is probably not a conventional path to becoming an author, particularly in paranormal romance.  Rachel says that, although accountancy isn’t anything like as boring as everyone thinks, writing is a lot more fun.  When not writing, she can be found walking in the beautiful countryside near where she lives, which has influenced much of the scenery in her books, or shooting things with her local archery club.  Target shooting only, honest.  Nothing to worry about.

She also enjoys swimming, eating chocolate chip cookies and growing aromatic herbs, especially thyme and rosemary.  It’s no coincidence that her heroine likes the same things.
