Baby Boomers may recall the early 80s KFC commercial featuring the legendary Ella Fitzgerald and an adorable nine-year-old girl. We didn’t know her name then but nine years later Shanice Loraine Wilson would simply be known as Shanice. The light, fun I Love Your Smile is the lead single from Shanice’s sophomore album Inner Child, released in October of 1991. This song is special to me because my daughter, Lindsey, was born in December of 1991 and this was one of “our songs” from her birth until, well…today, and she’s almost 27! 😀
The song became a hit, topping Billboard’s Hot R&B Singles chart for 4 weeks and also became a pop hit, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also was a top ten hit in dozens of countries around the world in 1992.
I Love Your Smile was nominated for a Grammy for “Best Female R&B Vocal Performance.”
Janet Jackson and her then-husband Rene Elizondo Jr. provided background vocals and can also be heard laughing at the end of the song.

I don’t think I’ve heard this before. I like it alot! I love looking at old videos…the fashions from back in the day😀 My older daughter is 29, she got “You Are My Sunshine” as her song.
