Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.
The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “a song from an artist/singer who shares your name.”
~~~~~~~~~~
No surprise I don’t know one single artist named ‘Felicia’… and Google was no help! Thanks for nothing, Google! So I went with my middle name which made the challenge easy peasy! 😀
1984 was a huge year for movies. Theaters were packed to see new releases like Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, Beverly Hills Cop, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Purple Rain, and Footloose. The teen musical drama starring Kevin Bacon featured an amazing soundtrack which included Let’s Hear It For the Boy by Deniece Williams. It was the second song from the soundtrack to reach #1 on Billboard’s Hot 100, as well as taking the top spot on the R&B and dance charts. Let’s Hear It For the Boy also received an Academy Award nomination for Best Music (Original Song).
It’s not the same spelling but Deniece is close enough to Denise for me!
Enjoy!
Let’s Hear It For the Boy
by Deniece Williams
Songwriter: Tom Snow and Dean Pitchford
My baby, he don’t talk sweet
He ain’t got much to say
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
I know that he loves me anywayAnd maybe he don’t dress fine
But I don’t really mind
Cause every time he pulls me near
I just wanna cheer
[Chorus]
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s give the boy a hand
Let’s hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Maybe he’s no Romeo
But he’s my loving one-man show
Whooa, whooa, whooa-oh
Let’s hear it for the boy
[Verse 2]
My baby may not be rich
He’s watching every dime
But he loves me, loves me, loves me
We always have a real good time
And maybe he sings off-key
But that’s all right by me, yeah
Cause what he does, he does so well
Makes me wanna yell
[Chorus]
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s give the boy a hand
Let’s hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Maybe he’s no Romeo
But he’s my loving one-man show
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Let’s hear it for the boy
[Pre-Chorus]
‘Cause every time he pulls me near
I just wanna cheer
[Chorus]
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s give the boy a hand
Let’s hear it for my baby
You know you gotta understand
Maybe he’s no Romeo
But he’s my loving one-man show
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa
Let’s hear it for the boy
[Outro]
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for the boy
Let’s hear it for my man
Let’s hear it for my man
Hey, great movie, and song! It sure makes me want to dance around the living room! haha – I like your name, Denise. That’s my oldest daughter’s middle name, too. 🙂
I enjoyed your choice. I have never heard of any of these musicians, but I did find a Felicia Sanders, Felicia Collins and Felicia Renae.
I wasn’t familiar with any of those either. Maybe I should just become a recording star! I hear a good singing voice is no longer required! 😀 😀 Thanks for stopping by!
