The Devil You Know, Part VI #52weeks52stories

Week 16! 😁

burglar-1678883_1920

Connie Pierce stormed across the walkway to her apartment.

Walt Stokely could be such a dumbass!

She fumed as she slammed her front door.

It wasn’t a big deal. All she asked him to do was go into Gary’s apartment and retrieve her laptop.

And he refused, spouting privacy concerns and the probability of getting sued.

Walt has also proposed the idea the laptop may not be in the apartment but with Gary, wherever he was. He needed a better reason to invade the man’s privacy.

Connie wanted to smack the man. He wasn’t worried about privacy when she caught him outside her bedroom window.

In a novel reminiscent of the work of Maya Angelou and Ntozake Shange, Rita Coburn Whack tells the story of how a young woman’s spiritual awakening leads her to maturity and self-fulfillment.

When Meant to Be opens, thirteen-year-old Patience Jan Campbell is called upon to read and interpret her favorite scripture for the church congregation: “I think this scripture means that children know every shut eye ain’t sleep and every head bowed ain’t praying, so grown-ups ain’t fooling us or God. . . . So nobody should hold a child back from God just ’cause they may be having trouble finding Him.”

But a traumatic experience causes Jan to stumble and lose her “voice.” Unable to turn to those around her, she calls for her grandmother Hannah—who died before Jan was born—in prayer. Unbeknownst to Jan, Hannah does come, and through her wise eyes we follow Jan into her early twenties as she moves to the big city, goes to college, and begins a career. A reflective father, a misunderstood mother, a sage aunt, and two pivotal lovers all build emotional bridges that help Jan progress on her journey to womanhood.

Fibromyalgia & The Best Cannabis Strains

Fibro Cloud

You’ve probably heard about people using medical marijuana to treat their fibromyalgia. According to many people who have done so, it’s actually a pretty effective treatment. Like with nearly any treatment, you’ll hear people talk about how it changed their life for the better and people who say it really wasn’t that effective. When it comes to fibromyalgia, everyone is different.

But we do know that cannabis has at least some benefit for many people with fibromyalgia. So how does cannabis deliver it’s medical benefits to those struggling with fibromyalgia? And what are some of the best cannabis strains for fibromyalgia?

How Does Cannabis Treat Fibromyalgia?

You might be wondering how marijuana is such a miracle cure when the only other thing you know about it is that it’s an illegal street drug. Well, the truth is that it’s hardly a miracle cure. Its efficacy varies widely among different condition and people, but it definitely seems to be useful to a lot of people when it comes to treating fibromyalgia.

That’s because marijuana is full of cannabidiol (or CBD), a compound that is shown to have numerous medical benefits. And unlike the other active compound in marijuana, THC, cannabidiol doesn’t leave you feeling high like smoking a plain old joint would. As a result, lots of people uses CBD derived products like oils or supplements instead of smoking their medical marijuana.

And the CBD in marijuana is proven to reduce pain in people with fibromyalgia without any significant side effects when taken as a high-quality CBD oil or capsule. But if you’re more into the idea of smoking your medication, and don’t mind the potential for getting high, you can get a CBD heavy cannabis strain that will be just as effective.

What Are The Best Cannabis Strains For Fibromyalgia?

When you’re choosing the some of the best cannabis strains for fibromyalgia, you want strains that have a high CBD content. Medical marijuana is typically judged by the ratio between THC and CBD that it contains. Whereas someone smoking marijuana for the mind-altering effects usually looks for strains with the high THC content, if you just want something to cure your pain without side effects, then the best cannabis strains for fibromyalgia have a lower THC content and higher CBD content.

So with that in mind, here are some to consider:

ACDC

ACDC is one of the best cannabis strains for fibromyalgia because it has such a high TCB content. In fact, the TCB has been measured in this strain at close to 19%. That means it actually doesn’t produce any psychoactive effects. So you could actually smoke this for the medical benefits and not get high at all.

So if you’re the kind of person who doesn’t respond well to marijuana but wants the medical benefits, ACDC is a great choice.

Harlequin

Harlequin is another high CBD content strain, which makes it one of the best cannabis strains for fibromyalgia. In addition, despite being a sativa-dominant strain, it’s also a very relaxing strain of cannabis to smoke, and the low THC means you won’t get high from it. So it’s great for relaxing without any of the paranoia-inducing effects of a traditional Sativa based marijuana strain.

Redwood Kush

The Redwood Kush strain is a heavy Indica-based strain. And that’s what makes it one of the best cannabis strains for fibromyalgia. While that means you won’t have the feeling of alertness that you would get from a Sativa, it also makes this strain great for fighting that fibromyalgia-induced insomnia that makes it hard to get a good night’s rest. Redwood Kush is also used to treat headaches and migraines, as well as body and muscle pain. Additionally, if you’re a fibro patient for whom the loss of appetite is a problem, Redwood Kush is known for giving people the munchies.

The THC content is a little higher, but the lack of Sativa means you are less likely to get that paranoid feeling that often accompanies marijuana.

Dynamite

Dynamite is a slightly higher THC content strain, which means you will be getting high from smoking it, but it also has a lot of CBD in it, which helps manage pain. And in additional fact that this is an Indica-based strain means that it will have a calming effect, soothing your nerves as it helps fight your chronic pain from fibromyalgia. So it’s great for relaxing or trying to get to sleep in spite of fibro pain. And, perhaps just as importantly, Dynamite has been used to treat stress and depression, which too many fibro patients are afflicted with.

But no matter which strain you choose, you should be fine as long as you get a good product with plenty of CBD in it.

Jonathan Turner is everything she wants, except it’s not her name he whispers in the dark, not her real life he is actually a part of. Playing the part of a drug runner doesn’t leave room for heart to heart, and looking twice at a crime boss is a surefire way for a protective lover to end up dead.

From Newbery Medal winner Patricia MacLachlan comes a poignant story about two children, a poet, and a dog and how they help one another survive loss and recapture love.

Teddy is a gifted dog. Raised in a cabin by a poet named Sylvan, he grew up listening to sonnets read aloud and the comforting clicking of a keyboard. Although Teddy understands words, Sylvan always told him there are only two kinds of people in the world who can hear Teddy speak: poets and children.

Then one day Teddy learns that Sylvan was right. When Teddy finds Nickel and Flora trapped in a snowstorm, he tells them that he will bring them home—and they understand him. The children are afraid of the howling wind, but not of Teddy’s words. They follow him to a cabin in the woods, where the dog used to live with Sylvan . . . only now his owner is gone.

As they hole up in the cabin for shelter, Teddy is flooded with memories of Sylvan. What will Teddy do when his new friends go home? Can they help one another find what they have lost?

Song Lyric Sunday | “If My Sister’s in Trouble” by Lady Soul

SLS banner

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.

The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “brother/sister.”

~~~~~~~~~~
I have five sisters and this has been one of our anthems ever since it appeared on a movie soundtrack.
From 1992’s Whoopie Goldberg blockbuster, Sister Act, If My Sister’s in Trouble not only appeared on the soundtrack, but if you were one of the millions who purchased the movie on VHSand the crowd gasps in horror! – the music video played before the movie!
Sung by the three-woman group, Lady Soul, If My Sister’s in Trouble was not written for Sister Act. It was a cover of Jeffrey Osborne’s If My Brother’s in Trouble, released two years earlier on his Only Human album. Shocker, right? The song is absolutely perfect for the movie. Unfortunately, Lady Soul didn’t last long and disbanded soon after releasing the tune as a single only.
The video is another winner! Lady Soul is joined by cast members Kathy Najimy (Sister Mary Patrick), Wendy Makkena (Sister Mary Robert) and awesome veteran actress Mary Wickes (Sister Mary Lazarus) in a montage of the song, movie clips, and great dead-pan looks from Mary Wickes!
Turn your speakers up – time to chair dance! 😀
Enjoy!
If My Sister’s in Trouble
by Lady Soul
Written by David Barratt and William John Clift
 Do you ever feel it
When people get unkind
You can hear it in their voices
They get poison on their mindsThough ignorance
Should never be excused
I’ll do my best
To pick up their attitudesI’m moving away again
But there’s one thing
That will make me take a stand
If my sister’s in trouble
I will always help her out
If my sister’s in trouble
I will turn the world around
I will fight for her right
No matter where the trouble seems to lie
If my sister’s in trouble so am I
If my sister’s in trouble so am I
So am I
All across the land
Young people are walking blind
But if the heat comes down
I’ll be standing by your side
For I am there for you
Like you are there for me
Nothing feels as good
As a sister’s loyalty
I’m talking about family
What my sister means to me
If my sister’s in trouble
I will always help her out
If my sister’s in trouble
I will turn the world around
I will fight for her rights
No matter where the problem seems to lie
If my sister’s in trouble so am I
If my sister’s in trouble so am I
So am I
I’ll be there for you
Just reach out your hands
And I’m gonna pull you through
I’m talking about family
And what my sister means to me
If my sister’s in trouble
I will always help her out
If my sister’s in trouble
I’m gonna turn the world around
I will fight for her rights
No matter where the problem seems to lie
If my sister’s in trouble so am I
Sister
I’m talking about my sister
Sister
My sister, my sister
You’re in trouble so am I
So am I, so am I
I will be there
If you’re in trouble
Reach out your hands
Call on me sister
I will be there
If you’re in trouble
Reach out your hands
Call on me sister
I will be there
If you’re in trouble
