If you read my previous post, youāll know Iām a tad curious about how the names weāre given as babies can later reflect who we are.
Pardon? You havenāt read it? Then youāll not be aware of my ālife-takingā qualities then ⦠youād best take a look back, quickly now ⦠Iām āoverpoweringā too š
I mentioned there was someone I wanted to feature, someone who truly lives up to her name. This lovely lady is a fellow author, sheās a member of the same Womenās Fiction writing group, and she just about epitomises her name with her generosity, warmth, humour, mild coffee addiction, and kindness. Sheās also ā Iām delighted to say ā a great friend of mine, who makes me laugh, cry and repeatedly bang my head on the desk ā¦Ā
Please, let me hear a huge cheer for Felicia Welch-Reevers, aka the author, Felicia Denise.
The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week isĀ ānumbersā.Ā
~~~~~
Very few songs about numbers are more well-known than The Purple One’s 1999.
Ā 1999 is the titular song and lead single of Princeās 1982 breakout album. The songāthe album openerāintroduces an apocalyptic universe that asks the listener to live their life until they canāt anymore, or party ātil itās 1999. When Prince initially submitted the album to Warner Bros., 1999 did not exist, but the label asked him to produce a song that summarized the theme of the LP. The song was recorded at Kiowa Trail Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota on the same day as Little Red Corvette, August 7, 1982. It was mixed at Sunset Sound Studio in Hollywood.
Many people believed the world would end in the year 2000. To āparty like itās 1999ā would imply having the party of your life, as you would do if you were partying for the last time before the world ends.
1999 was highly successful, especially with the many re-releases and performances leading up, into, and through the year 1999. For a time, it was Princeās trademark song and was arguably his most popular, only second in sales to the next song and single from 1999, Little Red Corvette.
1999
Written and sung by Prince
Don’t worry, I wont hurt you
I only want you 2 have some fun
I was dreamin when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin
Coulda sworn it was judgment day
The sky was all purple,
There were people runnin everywhere
Tryin 2 run from the destruction,
You know I didn’t even care
Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over,
Oops out of time
So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999
I was dreamin when I wrote this
So sue me if I go 2 fast
But life is just a party, and parties werent meant 2 last
War is all around us, my mind says prepare 2 fight
So if I gotta die I’m gonna listen 2 my body tonight
Originally from England and now living her dream in Spain, L S Fellows only took up writing as part of a challenge back in 2013. It didn’t take long to lure her into the murky world of murder mystery plots, plans for vengeance and conspiracy theories. Writing these stories has led her to enroll in some wacky and bizarre courses – purely for research, of course. These include ‘Identifying the dead’, ‘the forensic psychology of an eye witness’ and ‘antiquities trafficking and crime’ to name just a few.
Armed with this new knowledge she intends to follow up her latest project with a mystery series, or maybe a conspiracy thriller set in the Caribbean or possibly a fantasy set in medieval Spain. Who knows where she might end up?
Fern Mortimer has mastered the art of being invisible. Since a hit and run accident five years ago left her wheelchair-bound, she has become a recluse in her parents’ home.
After finally venturing back into the real world, she struggles to make friends and trust anyone. Getting the nickname of The Ice Queen at her new place of work does little to build her confidence.
However, one young woman, Nessa Sullivan, sees through Fern’s mask and is determined to be her friend. A mission that only months later sees Fern joining Nessa and three others on a well-deserved and much-needed holiday to the Portuguese Algarve.
During the holiday, Fern is seduced by a handsome restaurant manager, raising her mood and her hopes of a romantic entanglement whilst also robbing her of her usual common sense and sound judgement.
So, why is her wheelchair now lying capsized in the infinity pool and a body is spotted out at sea? Where is Fern Mortimer?
The story continues in Casualty of Court, which also introduces The Blackleaf Agency Series.
