The Name Game continues …

Nothing like good friends…except friends who are also writers! 😁💜

Just 4 My Books

If you read my previous post, you’ll know I’m a tad curious about how the names we’re given as babies can later reflect who we are.

Pardon? You haven’t read it? Then you’ll not be aware of my “life-taking” qualities then … you’d best take a look back, quickly now … I’m “overpowering” too 😉

I mentioned there was someone I wanted to feature, someone who truly lives up to her name. This lovely lady is a fellow author, she’s a member of the same Women’s Fiction writing group, and she just about epitomises her name with her generosity, warmth, humour, mild coffee addiction, and kindness. She’s also – I’m delighted to say – a great friend of mine, who makes me laugh, cry and repeatedly bang my head on the desk …

Please, let me hear a huge cheer for Felicia Welch-Reevers, aka the author, Felicia Denise.

Song Lyric Sunday | “1999” – Prince

Song Lyric Sunday was created by Helen Vahdati from This Thing Called Life One Word at a Time. For complete rules or to join in the fun, click here.

The theme for Song Lyric Sunday this week is “numbers”.

Very few songs about numbers are more well-known than The Purple One’s 1999.

1999 is the titular song and lead single of Prince’s 1982 breakout album. The song–the album opener–introduces an apocalyptic universe that asks the listener to live their life until they can’t anymore, or party ‘til it’s 1999. When Prince initially submitted the album to Warner Bros., 1999 did not exist, but the label asked him to produce a song that summarized the theme of the LP. The song was recorded at Kiowa Trail Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota on the same day as Little Red Corvette, August 7, 1982. It was mixed at Sunset Sound Studio in Hollywood.
Many people believed the world would end in the year 2000. To “party like it’s 1999” would imply having the party of your life, as you would do if you were partying for the last time before the world ends.
1999 was highly successful, especially with the many re-releases and performances leading up, into, and through the year 1999. For a time, it was Prince’s trademark song and was arguably his most popular, only second in sales to the next song and single from 1999, Little Red Corvette.

Written and sung by Prince

Don’t worry, I wont hurt you

I only want you 2 have some fun

I was dreamin when I wrote this

Forgive me if it goes astray

But when I woke up this mornin

Coulda sworn it was judgment day

The sky was all purple,

There were people runnin everywhere

Tryin 2 run from the destruction,

You know I didn’t even care

Cuz they say two thousand zero zero party over,

Oops out of time

So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999

I was dreamin when I wrote this

So sue me if I go 2 fast

But life is just a party, and parties werent meant 2 last

War is all around us, my mind says prepare 2 fight

So if I gotta die I’m gonna listen 2 my body tonight

Yeah, they say two thousand zero zero party over,

Oops out of time

So tonight I’m gonna party like it’s 1999

Lemme tell ya somethin

If you didn’t come 2 party,

Don’t bother knockin on my door

I got a lion in my pocket,

And baby he’s ready 2 roar

Yeah, everybodys got a bomb,

We could all die any day

But before I’ll let that happen,

Ill dance my life away

Oh, they say two thousand zero zero party over,

Oops out of time

Were runnin outta time (tonight I’m gonna)

So tonight we gonna (party like it’s 1999)

We gonna, oww

Say it 1 more time

Two thousand zero zero party over oops,

Out of time

No, no (tonight I’m gonna)

So tonight we gonna (party like it’s 1999)

We gonna, oww

Alright, it’s 1999

You say it, 1999

1999 don’t stop, don’t stop, say it 1 more time

Two thousand zero zero party over,

Oops out of time

Yeah, yeah (tonight I’m gonna)

So tonight we gonna (party like it’s 1999)

We gonna, oww

Yeah, 1999 (1999)

Don’tcha wanna go (1999)

Don’tcha wanna go (1999)

We could all die any day (1999)

I don’t wanna die,

Id rather dance my life away (1999)

Listen 2 what I’m tryin 2 say

Everybody, everybody say party

Cmon now, you say party

That’s right, everybody say (party)

Can’t run from the revelation, no (party)

Sing it 4 your nation yall (party)

Tell me what you’re singin, baby say (party)

Telephones a-ringin, mama (party)

Cmon, cmon, you say (party)

Everybody, [two times] (party)

Work it down 2 the ground, say (party)

Come on, take my body, baby (party)

That’s right, cmon, sing the song (party)

That’s right (party)

Got a lion in my pocket mama, say (party)

Oh, and he’s ready 2 roar (party)

Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?

Mommy, why does everybody have a bomb?

Women Writers… writing | L S Fellows

Lynne FellowsOriginally from England and now living her dream in Spain, L S Fellows only took up writing as part of a challenge back in 2013. It didn’t take long to lure her into the murky world of murder mystery plots, plans for vengeance and conspiracy theories. Writing these stories has led her to enroll in some wacky and bizarre courses – purely for research, of course. These include ‘Identifying the dead’, ‘the forensic psychology of an eye witness’ and ‘antiquities trafficking and crime’ to name just a few.

Armed with this new knowledge she intends to follow up her latest project with a mystery series, or maybe a conspiracy thriller set in the Caribbean or possibly a fantasy set in medieval Spain. Who knows where she might end up?

by L S Fellows

Genre: Short Stories/Family Life/Alzheimer’s Disease

He’s also my dad. My storyteller. My hero.

Except he doesn’t remember my face any more.
His world, these days, doesn’t include me or his family.

Life may have changed for him, but he hasn’t given up on life.
Not at all.
It’s just different.

Dad still tells his stories, albeit for a new audience.
He makes people smile and chuckle. As he always did.

He’s a fighter, a survivor and maybe sometimes too clever for his own good! He’ll surprise you. I can assure you of that.

Welcome to Magic O’Clock, where time is irrelevant and hope is unlimited.

This story is purely fictional, but the emotions are all too real.

by L S Fellows

Genre: Thriller & Suspense/International Mystery & Crime

Fern Mortimer has mastered the art of being invisible. Since a hit and run accident five years ago left her wheelchair-bound, she has become a recluse in her parents’ home.

After finally venturing back into the real world, she struggles to make friends and trust anyone. Getting the nickname of The Ice Queen at her new place of work does little to build her confidence.

However, one young woman, Nessa Sullivan, sees through Fern’s mask and is determined to be her friend. A mission that only months later sees Fern joining Nessa and three others on a well-deserved and much-needed holiday to the Portuguese Algarve.

During the holiday, Fern is seduced by a handsome restaurant manager, raising her mood and her hopes of a romantic entanglement whilst also robbing her of her usual common sense and sound judgement.
So, why is her wheelchair now lying capsized in the infinity pool and a body is spotted out at sea? Where is Fern Mortimer?

The story continues in Casualty of Court, which also introduces The Blackleaf Agency Series.

“Mornings like this I can understand the appeal of killer high heels. When Bea’s with me, her heels click with command down the sidewalk: Get out of my way, I’m in charge and I’ve got the footwear to prove it. I wear flats or trainers and let the sidewalk serve me quietly. But today there is no commanding clack beside me.”

Off Script: A Monkey & Me Novelcover

by Liv Bartlet

Genre: Women’s Fiction/Contemporary/Romance

“I kissed Edward Wolverton once. It was everything it was supposed to be—and then some… maybe I’ll kiss him again.”

TV Producer Bea Douglas’s last confession to her former business partner and ex-best friend wasn’t meant to tempt the fates. She’s eager to escape the hypocrisy of the television industry and years of hiding her faith for the convenience of other people. Edward Wolverton may be hot, smart, and funny—but he’s also two steps out of rehab with a self-proclaimed allergy to Christianity.

But after a club night turns violent, Bea loses her sense of self while Eddie teeters on the edge of relapse. Their connection to each other is the only certainty. To be together, each will have to let go of past pain and have faith in a love that never fades.

Off Script is an uncommon story of the power of love and resilience to bring people together in a society that does its best to tear them apart.

#BlogTour #Crossing the Goal Line” by Kim Findlay

Title: Crossing the Goal Line
Author: Kim Findlay
Romance – Contemporary, Harlequin, Heartwarming
Release Date: March 1, 2018
Cover Designer: Harlequin
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

Icebreaker or endgame?
Can two devoted athletes make room in their lives for love?

Mike Reimer knows from experience that hockey and relationships don’t mix. And hot-tempered swim coach Bridget O’Reilly couldn’t be more wrong for the widowed pro goalie, aka the Iceman. As the playoffs approach, Mike’s growing feelings for her could melt the hardest heart. But what if being with Bridget means letting down his team…and, worst of all, himself?

Mike had heard of love at first sight, but this was the first time he’d seen it happen, right in front of him. Bridget had come out, checking her phone, not even noticing him. Then when she’d looked up, she seemed annoyed. But as he’d waited, her expression softened, a small smile turned up the corners of her mouth and she moved forward as if drawn by an irresistible force.
Mike watched as she closed in on him…and then passed him…staring at his car. She brought one hand up, as if to touch it, then dropped it again.
She shook her head, and looked back at him. “A P1?”
Mike raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Yes.”
He watched as she completed her circuit of his car. Not everyone would recognize a McLaren, or know which one he had. He’d impressed people with this car, mostly when they realized what it cost, but he’d never been ignored for it. He didn’t like that. It was a nice car, even a beautiful one, but still it was just a car.

Kim Findlay lives in Toronto, Canada, with her very handsome husband, two strapping sons, and possibly the world’s cutest spaniel. When she can get time away from her accounting business, Kim can be found traveling, sailing, reading, or writing, depending on the season, time of day, and her energy level. You can find her at, @missheyer74, or on Facebook.

Women Writers… writing | Carol Soloway

Carol SolowayCarol Soloway lives in Southern California with her husband, who is nothing like any of the men in her book. She says:
“After each decade of my life, I’ve changed careers, and writing is the synthesis of all of the knowledge and skills I’ve accumulated along the path. My first career was as an English teacher during which time, I completed a master’s degree in English. Ten years later, I went back to school and became a chiropractor and established a rewarding practice which my son, also a chiropractor, now runs. Another decade passed and another career beckoned. I became a Qualified Medical Examiner and have been enjoying the challenges of that career for—of course, ten years.

“Since writing has always been my passion, I returned to school and took numerous creative writing courses including Squaw Valley Community of Writers summer program. Now, I’m enjoying the pinnacle of all of my careers as the author of SEX HAPPENS.

“I live with my wonderful husband who is nothing like any of the characters in the novel. Together, we have five grown sons with families of their own, all of whom have promised not to read the sex scenes.”
