Adriana Locke:

A contemporary romance author running on coffee and sticky kisses from my rowdy four little boys.

From Indiana, I’m a true Mid-Westerner. Life, for me, is about family, faith, and food. When I’m not running my kiddos around or having a lunch date of fajitas with my husband (and high school sweetheart), you can find me outside. I love a good sunny day almost as much as I love candy, random quotes, and steamy bad boys in fantastic books.

Mandi Beck:

Mandi Beck has been an avid reader all of her life. A deep love for books always had her jotting down little stories on napkins, notebooks, and her hand. As an adult she was further submerged into the book world through book clubs and the epicness of social media. It was then that she graduated to writing her stories on her phone and then finally on a proper computer.

A nursing student, mother to two rambunctious and somewhat rotten boys, and stepmom to two great girls away at college, she shares her time with her husband in Chicago where she was born and raised. Mandi is a diehard hockey fan and blames the Blackhawks when her deadlines are not met.

Emma Scott:

I write romances with flawed characters, characters with artistic hearts: builders, poets, and writers of various makes and models. I love to write book lovers; those who have found refuge, companionship, and escape in books, much as we do in real life. I like realism, honesty, authenticity in storytelling. I love to write about enduring love, soul-deep love, in as real a setting as I can make, but with big smooshy HEAs. I believe in diversity, open-mindedness, and inclusion. I like sweetness mixed with steam, love conquering all, and above all, hope. Love always wins.

Meghan Quinn:

Born in New York and raised in Southern California, Meghan has grown into a sassy, peanut butter eating, blonde haired swearing, animal hoarding lady. She is known to bust out and dance if “It’s Raining Men” starts beating through the air and heaven forbid you get a margarita in her, protect your legs because they may be humped.

Once she started commuting for an hour and twenty minutes every day to work for three years, she began to have conversations play in her head, real life, deep male voices and dainty lady coos kind of conversations. Perturbed and confused, she decided to either see a therapist about the hot and steamy voices running through her head or start writing them down. She decided to go with the cheaper option and started writing… enter her first novel, Caught Looking.

Now you can find the spicy, most definitely on the border of lunacy, kind of crazy lady residing in Colorado with the love of her life and her five, furry four legged children, hiking a trail or hiding behind shelves at grocery stores, wondering what kind of lube the nervous stranger will bring home to his wife. Oh and she loves a good boob squeeze!

A lover of all things ’80s and ’90s, especially John Hughes films and rap, she dabbles a little in photography, can knit a simple stitch scarf for necessity only and does a horrible job of playing the ukulele. She loves stories with alpha males, sassy heroines, hot sex and happily ever afters. She is a bit of a genre hopper in both her reading and her writing. So far she’s written books in several romance sub-genres including new adult, contemporary, paranormal and romantic suspense.

#Review “White Water, Black Death” by Shaun Ebelthite

“White Water, Black Death: The Terrifying New Cruise Ship Thriller”

Shaun Ebelthite (Author)

Genre: Thriller & Suspense/Medical/Terrorism

Release Date: September 5, 2017

4/5 Stars!

White Water, Black Death tackles the real possibility of a bio-terrorism attack aboard a cruise ship.

The book opens with the terrorist spreading his bodily fluids around the ship, under the guise of cleaning. His actions will lead to nine days of hell for many and a lifetime of loss for others.

The cast of characters is large, and this read is told from several POVs.

At first, I thought it extreme, but as the story unfolds, I understood it was necessary to not just see the drama through to different eyes but to understand the how and the why of the story.

There is Rachel Atkinson, CEO of the cruise line, Richard Wagner, COO of the cruise line and at odds with Rachel, Nathan Warwick, the ship’s captain, Geneva Jones, industry editor and journalist, Sarah, a young woman traveling with her infant son, Zach, and Aaron Atkinson, a twenty-one-year-old Ugandan adopted by Rachel as a ten-year-old.

The author weaves several issues into this read—corporate greed/profits before people, racism, abuse of power and authority, sexual assault and coercion, corporate espionage, and the thin line media walks between integrity and sensationalism—which at first may seem out of place and unrelated. But the author did an amazing job of tying them all together.

I was heartbroken watching passengers get sick and die. I was frustrated each time concern for the cruise line was put ahead of the lives of passengers and crew. I was thoroughly ticked off by the oppressive treatment of the crew as well as the sexual abuse/coercion… and murder.

This book truly played with my emotions, which probably sounds odd when I add that I didn’t care for any of the characters.

Okay… I did like Nathan, the ship’s captain. To me, he was the most honest of the lot—trying to do his job… with corporate over his shoulder second-guessing his decisions and making suggestions.

I’m not sure if Aaron Atkinson is indeed the protagonist of this story, but he worked my last good nerve.

While he may be the privileged adoptive son of Seaborne’s CEO now, Aaron’s early life was mired in death and disease until he was “rescued” by Rachel.

Burdened with the speech disorder of stuttering, Aaron comes across as shy and withdrawn. When he finds passengers Sarah and Geneva, who don’t seem to mind his stuttering, he’s drawn to them, especially single mother Sarah, who’s close in age.

Maybe I’m being too hard on Aaron, but I believe because of his childhood, he should have been tougher and capable of seeing the bigger picture. He believes the suicide was murder, but almost no one takes him seriously. True, there was an underlying plot, and yes, his stammer is a hindrance, but he also came across as such a total wimp, it was maddening. As the severity of the outbreak is realized, his responses are so childlike and juvenile, I wanted to scream.

Like Aaron, I believe Geneva’s heart was in the right place… when she could find it.

Still doing penance for an unfavorable article she wrote about Seaborne, Geneva’s presence on the cruise is merely to write a favorable review until it becomes clear to her a story is unfolding before her eyes… then she just becomes annoying, even putting herself in harm’s way.

But Aaron, Geneva, Nathan, baby Zack… and so many others are only pawns in the ultimate chess game.

When the truth about the Ebola outbreak is revealed, I shook my head at the human cost of the arrogance, greed, and need to control of one person.

I enjoyed this read but I do have one issue with White Water, Black Death. The pacing is slow. It took me three tries before I was able to get into the story. It is a suspenseful read, but there were too many places for me where the story watered down the suspense. One minute I was gripping my Kindle and the next I was like, “What just happened?”

But in the end, the payoff is worth it, and I do recommend this book!

Though it may drag in spots, most of the details are necessary and some even foreshadow parts of the ending, so pay attention to get the full story. Pay attention to get to the truth. Pay attention because revenge is a dish best served cold… especially when a pawn becomes the queen. Checkmate.

Author: Brenda Williams
Genre: Contemporary Romance/ Romantic Suspense

Release Date: December 4, 2017
Cover Designer: BWrite
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.

Twenty-one-year-old Chloe Kemp knows it’s not easy growing up in the celebrity spotlight. Unlike other child actors, Chloe’s determined to hold onto her squeaky clean reputation. So far that’s been easy because she really is as sweet and innocent as the media portrays.

Until a video of her in bed with the lead singer of a famous rock band is released online. Only nothing happened. Not that anyone will believe her…

Nor will anyone believe she was in bed with the wrong rock star. Chloe’s fallen for drummer, Gabriel da Silva, and she’s heartbroken she’s ruined her chances with him. Or is it possible he’s fallen for Chloe’s sweetness?

When Chloe is sent incriminating images, it becomes apparent someone is following her with the intention of ruining her reputation as well as her relationship with Gabe. If Chloe wants her career to survive, and a shot with Gabe, is it time she grows up and trusts her heart?

We lay back and I listened to the water lapping at the hull as we floated along. The yacht tipped as we were pulled down gently into the swell and the motion caused me to slide toward Gabe. As we bobbed up again I realized we were so close that all I had to do was reach out my pinky to stroke the back of his hand. I lay there paralyzed, my heart in my throat, while I willed myself to have the courage to reach out that fraction of an inch to touch him.
Then, in a movement so smooth it felt like it was the most natural thing in the world, Gabe twined his fingers through mine.
“Do you like it out here?” he asked.
I nodded, trying to ignore the way my fingers tingled and my hand throbbed from our contact. “I love the sense of freedom,” I managed.
“Tell me about it. All those hours I clocked up? Coming out here was like therapy when the band made it big.”
The yacht rolled over another large swell and shifted us so we were pressed together. “You don’t like the fame?” I asked casually, even though my arm against his made it feel like my whole body was on fire.
Gabe put his other hand behind his head and I did my best to avert my eyes when his T-shirt rode up and revealed a tanned, taut strip of his abdomen.
“Do you?”
His question caught me off guard. “Huh?”
His mouth quirked like he knew what I’d been thinking. “Do you like the fame?”
“I wouldn’t say I like it, but I’m used to it. You’re not, are you?”
“A bit more now. At first, being out here on this yacht was the only place I still felt like myself.”
“Gypsy Hour’s popularity happened quickly, didn’t it?”
“Not according to Levi and Johnnie. They were doing gigs and cutting singles for almost seven years before I met them.”
“Hang on. Weren’t you always in the band?”
“Nope. And I thought you were a fan.” He nudged me gently with his shoulder. “Levi approached me one night when I was playing at a gig. Back then I was in a few different bands and played around LA regularly. He told me their drummer had just left. Something about a difference of opinions with Johnnie if you can imagine that.” His wry grin told me he could imagine exactly that. “Anyway, a few months later one of our singles made it big and I was officially in a famous rock band.”
“Wow. I had no idea it was like that for you.”
“Right place, right time.”
“It’s always like that with fame,” I told him. “Too often success comes down to that one lucky moment.”
Gabe propped himself up on his elbow but didn’t let go of my hand. Those beautiful gray eyes regarded me seriously. “You really believe that?”
“But you’ve been working at acting since you were a kid.”
“Yes, I have, and I’ll keep working hard, but the thing I learned early on was luck plays a huge part. Mama’s connections got me started easier than most. It allowed me to pick up a few commercials when I was kid. What people didn’t see were the hundreds of auditions I went to for television pilots that I didn’t get. And the one I did get? I got the part on School Daze because the director had been on the crew for one of the commercials I’d done. Simple as that. I wasn’t necessarily more talented, cuter, or more professional. I was just lucky.”
“That doesn’t bother you?”
“No, why would it?”
“Because don’t you want it to be your hard work that got you there?”
I looked down at our hands and my pale skin against his tanned complexion. We were so different, in more than just our looks. Fame had always been part of my life but it was new to Gabe and I sensed in him an unease that I was only just beginning to understand.
“When Gypsy Hour made it big you didn’t feel like you deserved to be there, did you?” I asked him.
Gabe shrugged and cast his eyes to the horizon. “Maybe.”
“But you had been working hard—in other bands. If you hadn’t, Levi wouldn’t have seen you and approached you.”
He let out a deep sigh. “Yeah, that’s true, I guess.”
I took in his profile. He had a regal quality that I liked. Unlike Johnnie, who was all bravado, Gabe’s confidence was quiet, but maybe a little less self-assured than I had first thought.
“How old are you?” I asked.
My question seemed to break Gabe out of his reverie and he met my eyes. “Twenty-eight. Why?”
“And how long have you been drumming?”
“Since I was eleven.”
“So you’ve been playing drums for . . . ” I did the math in my head. “Seventeen years. I’d say that makes you very experienced.”
“More experienced than you.”
Oh boy. Those few words changed the tone of our easy conversation into something a whole lot less easy, and I swallowed.
