NaNo Diaries: Changes #NaNoWriMo

Every MS goes through them, especially in the editing phase.

I chatted with an author a couple of years ago who planned every aspect of her book, right down to the dialogue.

Other than spelling and grammar, there were no changes.

I was in awe.

I have no clue what a book’s title will be until I reach midpoint in writing… mostly.

But this ultra-author knew in advance what her characters would do and say, plot twists, and the ending.

That’s an amazing superpower to have.

Yet, I don’t think it’s one I want.

As a character-driven writer, the voices in my head trip me up almost daily when I began a new MS.

Saturday, Day 4 of NaNoWriMo, two in-the-moment-characters stole scenes. And they were good.

Yesterday, Day 6 of NaNoWriMo, the protagonist took a walk into existentialism.

Wait, what?

It wasn’t planned, but it fit.

From Chapter 3 – New Destinations

The one condition Leria set was that they keep to public spaces, and to her surprise the man readily agreed. He maintained a polite distance as she navigated the late-night shoppers of the sleepless city and found a recess beneath the dull glow of a billboard monitor, removed enough to speak in comfort but close enough to scream for help. As she opened her mouth, Leria heard a train pass in the distance, and shuddered momentarily.

“Are you alright?” he asked.

She shook it off. “How do you know my name?”

“Leria Rujet, SIN ID number one-two-three-four-five,” he replied. “How did you manage to get such a number, by the way?”

“Probably just registered after whoever got number one-two-three-four-four.” Her tone made it clear she wasn’t eager to make small talk.

“It wasn’t difficult to find you there,” he went on. “Registered on Annora. Prosthetic arm, the result of early adaptive surgery.” He glanced down below her skirt. “File didn’t mention anything about the leg though.”

“It’s recent.” She tugged instinctively at her skirt’s hem. “And who are you? It would save me some trouble in looking it up when I get home.”

“Crescen DuMear,” he replied. “You won’t find anything concerning me on the net. I’m something of a recruiter.”

“For what?” Leria couldn’t contain her laughter. “No one wants skins for anything, not even halfsies like me.”

“I represent a foreign interest,” he replied simply. Leria didn’t follow his meaning—foreign was itself a foreign concept, and had been for centuries. Breth operated under a self-interested global governance, so interconnected that concepts of culture had long ago blurred. “Officially, we haven’t yet begun operations here. Breth’s people are complacent, comfortable. They haven’t been challenged, let alone sorted.”

The whole thing sounded shady, and Leria decided to get down to business. “You offered me a chance at a better life. What exactly did that mean?”

“You get to do the right thing, and prove yourself exceptional. Do it, and I can take you some place far from here, where Leria Rujet is accepted for who she is and doesn’t need special identification because she wasn’t interested in following the crowd.”

“So you’re offering, what, some sort of utopia?”

“Never trust that word,” Crescen replied with amusement. “It’s not a real thing, not yet. If it were, you would be as happy here as everyone around you, and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”

As reality nears its final days, worlds fall to ruin. A benevolent god is shackled, and when freed, will create a new one … allowing only the pure of heart. A company of seven have united on a bloody quest to stop him, but have little hope of emerging victorious.

The outcasts are adrift—they have a mission but no means to fulfill it. Airia Rousow, the fallen goddess who set them on their path, is gone. Guardian Poe, her intended successor, believes deification will absolve him of his sins and his remorse alike. And Zella Renivar, daughter of the Living God, is still hunted by her father’s agents, drawing danger on them all.

Trapped in this storm, Flynn is able to find and open the ways between worlds, but cannot discern which path is the right one. Since losing the trust of his closest friend, the temptation to fall back on his former, deceitful ways grows with every crisis he faces.

These are heroes not of virtue, but of circumstance—and it will fall on Flynn to keep them all together.

Can you trust someone who can’t afford to trust you back?

Emmeline is ready to be seen. And someone is watching.

Emmeline Weiss is facing the most important day of her life. The stakes are high: her high-powered, high-society life in Chicago could come crumbling down around her. But if it did, would she be in a free fall, or would she be free? In a time like this, Emmeline knows she needs to sort enemies from friends—and quickly—but who can she trust? And what if trust has more than ONE definition?

As her life dismantles into dark questions and darker answers, the last thing Emmeline expects is for passion and chemistry, physical need and wild sex, to take over. For the first time, with this sexy stranger, Emmeline feels seen.

But maybe it’s because someone is watching…

He dominates and cherishes me all at once, as if trying to show me through sex what he is like in life.

I relish his touch, letting him control the pace until it’s too much. My moans fill the silence, and I tug for my hands to be released. I need more, I need to touch him, feel him, make him thrust deeper, faster. As soon as he lets go of my hands, his palms hook under my butt and I’m up in the air, pushed against the cold window, with him plunging deeper inside me. I cry out from pleasure and from the coldness of the glass, locking my ankles behind his back.

We pick up the pace and he drives each thrust deeper, putting both of us on the edge. My inner walls clench in an effort to prolong the pleasure and put off an inevitable orgasm. The result is just the opposite. Alex grunts loudly at the added tightness, grabs my hips roughly, and rams me against the window wall. I’m done for, spiraling out control and into orgasm-induced oblivion.

“Fractured Wings” by C.R. Lemons #ReleaseBlitz

Title: Fractured Wings

Authors: C. R. Lemons

Genre: Adult, Psychological Thriller

Published: November 7, 2017

Page Count: 220 Pages

Just when the time has come to spread your wings and fly on your own, life has other plans and anchors you to the ground…

Alex Sutherland has lived a charmed, small town life, which has been perfectly mapped out. As a recently engaged law school graduate, she is on the cusp of starting her new life and career in the big city. However, her carefully laid out plan is instantly halted when she is attacked while out for a run on the last day at her childhood home.

Although her physical wounds have healed, she is plagued with constant nightmares and recurring memories of the brutality. At her lowest moment, Alex finds her strongest support from Anthony Gabrielli, the FBI agent in charge of her case. Through his subtle encouragement, she takes steps to reclaiming her prior self, even though her assailant has not been caught. When she discovers she is still being targeted, she decides to face her fears and becomes determined to find out what lurks in the shadows.

This change came over me as I was confronting Danny. It felt good to stand up for myself and express these feelings of anger and despair towards him for what he did, more importantly what he did to me. Now, I yearn to be able to confront my attacker in the same way. I have to find him along with the person responsible, and it is not going to happen with me withering away in my bed. My wings have merely been fractured, and it has taken some time for them to heal. I am on the brink of soaring again, and nothing is going to stop me once I am fully recovered.

“I have such an active imagination and I truly enjoy transcribing it into words. As I am writing, the people, places, and things come to life before me and I completely lose myself. Writing is my meditation. I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them. Thank you and happy reading.”
