Other Side is a riveting psychological tale set in the New York City metropolitan area. The themes are viewed through the experiences of Jordan Baros a young middle-class African American attorney. The title Other Side is an attempt to explore the duality of personality, character, and actions of people. Jordan faces his conflicts and value propositions through four relationships that are juxtaposed and contradictory. His pursuit of validation and truth is explored through his mother, wife, mistress and a sex worker. The anecdotes from each encapsulate a broad perspective of political and social issues in a multicultural society. Jordan’s journey and the women’s stories of relationship struggle and maturation provide the platform for all the characters development.

Ray Hollar-Gregory, Esq. was born in Newark, New Jersey and attended schools in Montclair, New Jersey. After college, he attended law school and worked in various corporate legal positions prior to specializing in healthcare as an attorney and ultimately a business executive. Always socially progressive he transitioned from the practice of law to become the Executive Director of New York City’s Health and Hospital’s Medicaid program (MetroPlus) for disadvantaged health recipients. Presently he is a college professor teaching legal and business courses as part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. He has published in academic journals and written many winning legal briefs and memos. This is his first novel.

Tears’ Task

“But do not weep for me,
for one must choose between compassion
or bitter cynicism…”

A must-read.

Life Matters

I cry more than I used to,
……..about those hungry and destitute,
……..driven into torturous perils,
……..risking all for scant hope of survival

children alone, afraid of
war, neglect, poverty, loss of home,
still unable to frame the words,
yet choked by invisible strangleholds.

I weep more than ever for people hated
……..simply for the color of their skin,
……..the conviction of their heart,
……..the level of their competencies

for all caught, vice-grip-like,
in social disparity, mere pawns –
chess pieces – subject to
unbridled narcissism and greed.

I shed more tears than I used to
…….about dogs – cooped up – caged alone,
…….worse still, used for cruel sport,
…….or confined by metal chain

about marine life perishing in polluted seas
forests at risk, resources exploited,
water tainted, oil spilled, nighttime’s splendor
erased by light from torrid flame.

I’m grieved…

Neil Gaiman

There are many celebrated writers in this world, but few ever reach the rockstar-level status of dark fantasy author Neil Gaiman.

Fans stand in line for hours at his book signings, only to faint when they finally meet him (or ask him to sign their body so they can get his signature tattooed).

His beloved novels and comics—Coraline, Stardust, American Gods, Good Omens, and The Sandman (to name a few)—have gained cult followings and been adapted for the big screen and television.

His 2012 “Make Good Art” commencement address inspired all of us to break the rules and make mistakes, making it clear that after decades of aspiring writers asking him for advice, Gaiman has a quite a bit of inspiration and wisdom to share.

So whether you’re hunting for magic or just practical tips, we’ve gathered together some of Gaiman’s best advice on writing. Enjoy!
