Severely injured in an accident that forever changed her life, 10-year-old Olivia becomes another faceless, underserved child in foster care. With no time to mourn or grieve, the young girl is easy prey for uncaring social workers and ambivalent foster families.
Olivia quickly learns to hold her tongue and mask her emotions. Even when exposed to neglect, bullying, and assault, no one seems to care. Holding fast to the teachings of her late father, Olivia ages out of the system broken, but no longer a victim.
Now a successful child advocate attorney, Olivia is a passionate voice for children. However, a routine case assignment by the court plunges Olivia back into the trauma of her childhood. If she doesn’t face her demons, a child will be sent into foster care, and Olivia will lose the only chance at love she’s ever had…or wanted.
Foster care for her young client is not an option. But Olivia’s emotional scars run even deeper than she realized. Reconciling with her past means Olivia must confront the one woman she blames for her battered soul.
A woman who has no idea who Olivia is.
MANY thanks to ALL who have downloaded a copy of In the Best Interest of the Child!
Writing has been a hobby of Felicia’s since grade school, but other than serving as editor and writing for her high school newspaper, she never publicly shared anything until the early 2000s when she began writing fan fiction. At the urging of a good friend, Felicia took on the challenge of NaNoWriMo in 2015, writing what would become her first published book, In the Best Interest of the Child. It was released in the fall of 2016.
Currently working on several projects, Felicia plans to release book 2 of In the Best Interest of the Child – Family Matters, in summer 2017.

“Perfect Spy: The Incredible Double Life of Pham Xuan An, Time Magazine Reporter and Vietnamese Communist Agent” by Larry Berman
99¢ for a #LimitedTime!
“Perfect Spy: The Incredible Double Life of Pham Xuan An, Time Magazine Reporter and Vietnamese Communist Agent“
Release Date: October 10, 2009
During the Vietnam War, Time reporter Pham Xuan An befriended everyone who was anyone in Saigon, including American journalists such as David Halberstam and Neil Sheehan, the CIA’s William Colby, and the legendary Colonel Edward Lansdale—not to mention the most influential members of the South Vietnamese government and army. None of them ever guessed that he was also providing strategic intelligence to Hanoi, smuggling invisible ink messages into the jungle inside egg rolls. His early reports were so accurate that General Giap joked, “We are now in the U.S. war room.”
In Perfect Spy, Larry Berman, who An considered his official American biographer, chronicles the extraordinary life of one of the twentieth century’s most fascinating spies.
Throwback Thursday: Does Your Book Need a Sequel?
Not Exactly Classic Symphony
Your entertainment for the day…courtesy of Staci Troilo! 😉
I write a lot of serious and dark fiction on this site, so most of you probably think I’m fairly sober and have no measurable sense of humor (and if you watch The Big Bang Theory, you know a sense of humor can be measured; Sheldon’s done the math).
To you who think I’m dull and boring, well, you might be right. Even so, I still laugh a lot during the day. Mostly at myself, but also at the doglings, and often at things my kids say and do.
Case in point—today’s WP Daily Prompt is Symphony. I’ve actually played classical music in a symphonic band and earned an adjudication score of 5/5. I listen to classical music all the time. I can, within reason, discuss symphonic music, at least on a basic level. (See? I sound sober and humorless.)
So when I read the prompt, what came to…

“The Wrong Way to Save Your Life: Essays” by Megan Stielstra
“The Wrong Way to Save Your Life: Essays“
Genre: Essays
Release: August 1, 2017
From an important new American writer comes this powerful collection of personal essays on fear, creativity, art, faith, academia, the Internet, and justice.
In this poignant and inciting collection of literary essays, Megan Stielstra tells stories to ward off fears both personal and universal as she grapples toward a better way to live. In her titular piece “The Wrong Way To Save Your Life,” she answers the question of what has value in our lives—a question no longer rhetorical when the apartment above her family’s goes up in flames. “Here is My Heart” sheds light on Megan’s close relationship with her father, whose continued insistence on climbing mountains despite a series of heart attacks leads the author to dissect deer hearts in a poetic attempt to interrogate her own feelings about mortality.
Whether she’s imagining the implications of open-carry laws on college campuses, recounting the story of going underwater on the mortgage of her first home, or revealing the unexpected pains and joys of marriage and motherhood, Stielstra’s work informs, impels, enlightens, and embraces us all. The result is something beautiful—this story, her courage, and, potentially, our own.
Intellectually fierce and viscerally intimate, Megan Stielstra’s voice is witty, wise, warm, and above all, achingly human.
“Stielstra is a masterful essayist.”—Roxane Gay, author of Bad Feminist and Hunger
Megan Stielstra’s story collection, Everyone Remain Calm, was a Chicago Tribune Favorite of 2011, and her essay collection, Once I Was Cool, is forthcoming May 2014. Her work has appeared in The Best American Essays 2013, The Rumpus, PANK, Other Voices, and elsewhere. She is the Literary Director of the critically-acclaimed 2nd Story storytelling series and has told stories for all sorts of theaters, festivals, and bars including the Goodman, Steppenwolf, the Neo-Futurarium, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and regularly for The Paper Machete live news magazine at The Green Mill. She teaches creative writing at Columbia College and Northwestern University.

Title: Legacy Of Freedom
Author: Deanndra Hall
Genre: MM Romantic Suspense
Release Date: August 24, 2017
Hosted by: Buoni Amici Press, LLC.
School’s over, and Hunter McCoy has a request of his newly-found dad. He wants to work for Citadel Security for the summer. With Jack Crismon as a grandfather, he’s decided he might want to look at criminal justice instead of a law degree, and getting a little hands-on experience is the only way he’ll know what he should do.
But the benign job Steve gives him as a bodyguard for an old business contact, Burton Calvert, turns out to be a horrible mistake when it’s discovered that the guy is in cahoots with the infamous criminal Crismon. Worse yet, Calvert keeps a stable of barely-legal young men captive for use by his business associates. He couldn’t have known that Hunter was gay. No one did. And to Hunter’s horror, one of the slaves the criminal offers to his accomplices is the young McCoy’s dream come true. They fall helplessly and hopelessly in love, only to find that things are much worse than they first appeared and everyone’s lives are in danger.
It only takes one massacre for Hunter to know he has to do something drastic. But what? As things deteriorate, danger gets ever closer until one fateful night when everything is on the line. It could all go up in smoke with one big bang, and the only ally Hunter can rely on is an enemy. It’s time to trust someone. All Hunter can do is hope that when he makes the choice between the devil and the deep blue sea, he chooses wisely.
Otherwise, everyone will die.
The second book in the Legacy series and the tenth in the Love Under Construction saga, A Legacy of Freedom is Hunter’s story, a story of imprisonment, sometimes at our own hands, and the courage it takes to break free. Sometimes, the worst prison we can inhabit is the one we make for ourselves.
